A Character Glamour Shot with the Canterbury Tales

A Character “Glamour Shot” with The Canterbury Tales

Name: ______Date: ______Class: ______

The Task: You are conducting a “photo shoot” with a character from The Canterbury Tales to represent his or her appearance and personality traits. You must use evidence as presented by the narrator to make a visual representation of your chosen character’s description. Every line in the section needs to be illustrated with the words of the poem displayed below or on the image and accompanying the words aloud. Images must aptly portray the tone, mood, or feeling of the poem: your goal is to assist in everyone's understanding of the poem, not confuse viewers by images which might prompt misinterpretation. Be sure to do some research so that your images, facts, and allusions are correct. To do this, you will use Prezi to incorporate pictures, text, and sound. You'll need to record someone reading the poem or read it live. (Sometimes you can find a professional reading on the Internet, or you might ask someone with a strong voice to do it if you feel uncomfortable.) You are, in a sense, expected to visually paraphrase the poem. Do consider the character as a whole, though. Present each image coupled with the words both printed and recorded so that students will both read and hear the entire poem as the appropriate images appear. Be prepared to present to the class for grading.

Grading Requirements: This project will be a major grade.

Presents each line of the character description in The Canterbury Tales ____/40 points  You must choose a character whose description is at least 20 lines (or two characters who total 20+)  You will lose points for errors in copying the lines  Do not place more than two lines of a character’s description with an individual image—one picture per line is more accurate

Images represent an in-depth understanding, not just the literal implication ____/20 points  You must reflect the interpretation of the character as a whole, not simply as individual lines  Images must be appropriate to the poem

Presentation flows clearly ____/15 points  No gaps  Focus points are logical and easy to follow

Includes an audio recording of the lines in the presentation; sound is clear; tone is fitting ____/10 points (You may read aloud in an appropriate voice; demonstrate practiced reading and correct pronunciations.)

Reflects creativity and originality; reflects time spent for precision ____/15 points

*You must turn in this rubric for grading.
