<p> Mandarin Introduction 2011-2012</p><p>5 6th & 7th grade Week Lesson Grade Numbers; how old are you Topic Time Objectives:  Communicative topic: Introduce your age and grade; learn about numbers.  Language study: 你几岁?我十一岁。你几年级?我 6 年级。  Vocabulary: 数字一到十,几,岁  Supplementary vocab: 年级  Characters: 数字一到十  Cultural background: the major cities in China, and some landmarks</p><p>Day 1 Numbers Learn to say number 1-10.  Lead-in: Express number 1-10 with one hand  Vocab. study: Can you pronounce the numbers in Chinese? (handouts)  Rhyme: 一二三,三二一  Shuttlecock game: Teacher/students play the shuttlecock and count. Pingpong game: Teacher/students play the ball onto the wall and count.  Wrap-up: Homework (worksheets)</p><p>Day 2 Numbers and Characters Review number 1-10 and learn to recognize/write in characters.  Review: In-class exercise (worksheets, listen and write);rhyme  Lead-in: Get to know the Chinese characters for 1-10 (Find and stick)  Learn to write: Students learn to write the character (talk about what these characters look like, write on Pomethean board)  Writing game: Students compete in two and see who is the first one to write the suggested word. (prepare awards)  Summary:  Wrap-up: HW</p><p>Day 3 How Old are you? Learn numbers 11-20; introduce your age  Review: Count/write the numbers  Vocabulary: 11-20  Sentence patterns: 你多大?我十一岁。(handouts)  Exercise/game: Don’t say 3  Oral work: Give a brief introduction of yourself 你好!我叫。我是美国人。我从印第安纳来。 我十一岁。 Mandarin Introduction 2011-2012  Cultural background: Age is not a taboo in China; the respect for the old  Wrap-up: Practice your brief introduction and try to say w/t your handouts.</p><p>Day 4 Number 20-100 Learn to count 20-100, 1000, 10000.  Review: Number 1-20; 我…岁。  Lead-in: Tabloid (Each student is given the age of a pop star; go around and ask 她/他多大? and fill in the form)  Expand your vocab: 20, 30, 40, …90; 21, 22, 23, …; 100, 200, 300, …1000, 2000, …, 10000 百,千, 万  Listening: Do you know these numbers? (Teacher gives facts about China which include statistics; students say the numbers in English) 34 provinces; 56 ethnic groups  Chopstick game: Pick up the peas with chopsticks and count.  Wrap-up: HW (practice counting numbers 1-100)</p><p>Day 5 Review numbers Review and more practice on numbers  Review: I say, you tell (7, numbers that have 7; multiples of 7)  Lead-in: Don’t say 7  Card game: Addition and subtraction (students line up in two, say the numbers of the addition and subtraction shown on the cards)  Dice game: Students work in 2 or 3. Each takes turn and throws the dice and sees what number they will get; keep records of the numbers in each round; play 8 rounds; add all the numbers together; the group with the highest number wins. (All numbers have to be said in Chinese)  Wrap-up: Summarize the week and preview the following week</p>
