<p>Fox River Dredging Hits 2012 Target</p><p>For Immediate Release November 27, 2012 (Green Bay, WI) – The Fox River Cleanup Project wrapped up its fourth season of dredging on the Lower Fox River on November 12th. For the season, just more than 662,000 cubic yards of sediment were dredged, bringing the four year total to more than 2.1 million cubic yards. The goal of the cleanup effort is to reduce the risk to human health and the environment due to the presence of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). </p><p>Work in 2012 included dredging in a number of areas between the De Pere Dam and the project’s processing facility in Green Bay. No capping or covering operations took place in 2012.</p><p>This year’s dredging operations produced more than 325,000 tons of processed sediment that required hauling nearly 14,000 truckloads to the Hickory Meadows Landfill in Calumet County and the EQ-Wayne Disposal Facility near Detroit. In addition, approximately 33,000 tons of sand were beneficially reused as part of the Highway 41 project. </p><p>The Fox River Cleanup Project this year also topped the one million mark for hours worked without a lost time incident, hitting 1,120,000 hours at the end of the dredging season. </p><p>With the conclusion of 2012 operations, work now continues on the design for the dredging, capping and covering operations that are expected to resume in spring as the project continues to move downstream. </p><p>###</p><p>The Fox River Cleanup Project is a multi-year project designed to reduce risk to human health and the environment due to the presence of PCBs in the Fox River Sediment.
