He told Austin his request to settle 300 families has been approved by the government.</p><p>2. ______A Texas lawyer arrested with fellow lawyer Patrick C. Jack by Anahuac commander John Davis Bradburn in 1832 for interfering with his efforts to enforce laws there. In late June 1835 he led a small group of Texans from San Felipe to Anahuac to free merchant Andrew Briscoe. Was a War Party leader at the Consultation meeting in 1835.</p><p>3. ______Son of Moses Austin who became the most successful empresario in Texas. Settled “The Old 300”. Imprisoned in Mexico City for writing a letter to the authorities in San Antonio encouraging them to form a state government. Joined the War Party at the Consultation in 1835. Known as “The Father of Texas”.</p><p>4. ______People who believed that governmental power should be concentrated in the national government in Mexico City. Leads to a dictatorship.</p><p>5. ______People who believed in the sharing of governmental power between the states and national government. Favored by Texans and leads to a republic or democracy.</p><p>6. ______Mexican General who led an inspection party to Texas from 1827. Wrote a report after touring Texas expressing concern about the growing Anglo American influence there. His recommendations for Texas’ future became part of the Law of April 6, 1830.</p><p>7. ______A lead-miner from Missouri (in Spanish Louisiana) that met with Spanish Governor of Texas Antonio Martinez and proposed bringing 300 families to colonize Texas. Died in 1821. His son continued his plan. 8. ______Texas delegate that represented Nacogdoches at Convention of 1833. Served as chairman of the committee that wrote the draft of the constitution for the proposed Mexican state of Texas.</p><p>9. ______The next most successful empresario behind Stephen F. Austin. Granted permission to settle 400 families west of Austin’s colony. Established town of Gonzales. By 1831, settled 166 land titles.</p><p>10. ______Mexican General and Federalist that led a revolt against Centralist president Anastacio Bustamante. Promised to follow the Mexican Constitution of 1824, but became a Centralist. Sent troops to Texas in 1835 which convinced SFA that he was becoming a dictator.</p><p>11. ______The original number of families settled by Stephen F. Austin. They faced many special challenges and became pioneers, among the first people to settle the area.</p><p>12. ______A respected Mexican political leader that was ordered to be arrested by General Martin Perfecto de Cos. Helped write the Mexican federal Constitution of 1824. Critic of recent actions by Santa Anna in Mexico. Concerned about his safety, he moved to Texas. </p><p>13. ______Mexican empresario that received a grant to establish a colony of 41 Mexican families on the lower Guadalupe River near the Texas coast. Founded the town of Victoria with his wife Patricia. An expert horseman and cattle rancher. Helped found the cattle industry in Texas.</p>
