
<p> Math 1 Summer Bridge School Course Syllabus Mr. Torres [email protected]</p><p>Welcome to Math 1 Summer Bridge! This class is designed to give outgoing Math 8 students the opportunity to master two additional units that were only covered in Integrated Math 1, thus making them eligible to start 9th grade in Integrated Math 2. This class will not count as high school math credit and will be taken solely for the purpose of accelerating students in the math course sequence. The placement for their 9th grade year will be based on the following requirements: </p><p>1. Math 1 Bridge Pretest: Any student exceeding the standards on the pretest will test out of this class and be placed in Integrated Math 2 Enhanced. 2. Successful completion of the Math 1 Bridge Course: Passing the Math 1 Summer Bridge course with a “B” or better, along with a “B” or better in Math 8, enables a student to be eligible to take Integrated Math 2 Enhanced their 9th grade year. Passing the Math 1 Summer Bridge Course with a “C” or better, along with a “B” or better in Math 8, enables a student to be eligible to take Integrated Math 2 their 9th grade year. 3. Receiving any grade below a “C” for the Math 1 Summer Bridge Course will automatically place the student in Integrated Math 1 their 9th grade year. </p><p>This course is expected to fit into a 3.25 hour/day, two-week format, which is 10 class periods. We will be covering a lot of material every day, so attendance is crucial to your success!! You are allowed to miss no more than 6 hours of class the entire session before you are automatically dropped from the class, no exceptions! That is only 2 days! Keep in mind that tardies accumulate to hours missed!</p><p>Materials Needed In Class: Spiral Notebook for notes and extra paper for classwork. Writing utensils (pencil or pen is fine. Several different colors are needed to facilitate notes) Scientific calculator (you will not be able to use your calculator on your phone)</p><p>Homework/Classwork Policy: Completion of homework and classwork assignments is vital to your success. Mathematics requires much practice and repetition to be understood. Assignments given will be turned in either that day or the next class meeting for credit.</p><p>Grading System: A = 90% - 100% Exams/Quizzes = 70% B = 80% - 89.9% Homework/Classwork = 30% C = 70% - 79.9% NC = 0% - 69.9%</p><p>Classroom Guidelines: Students will be on time to class. (Being tardy will affect your citizenship grade and attendance.) Students will come prepared to class. Students will show respect for themselves and others. Students will keep electronic devices put away during class unless directed.</p><p>Online Resources:</p><p>We will be making heavy use of the following resources so please make sure to use them daily: Canvas LMS and Remind.com.
