Graphing Calculator Activities Linear Regressions

1) Turn the calculator on and adjust the power setting. [2nd] then hold down []

2) Clear all previous entries. [y=] then [clear] on each line with an equation. [stat] [edit] [] [clear] [] for each list with data [2nd] [quit] to get out of the stat editor.

3) Enter new data into lists L1 and L2 [stat] [edit] then enter data [2nd] [quit] to get out of the stat editor.

4) Set up graph [2nd] [stat plot] [plotsoff] this turns off any extra graphs [2nd] [stat plot] [plot 1…] then choose the type, Xlist, Ylist, and Mark

[2nd] [quit] to get out of the stat plot editor.

5) Set graph window [window]

Xmin should be smaller than the smallest number in L1

Xmax should be larger than the largest number in L1 Xscl is the distance between tick marks on the X-axis

Ymin should be smaller than the smallest number in L2

Ymax should be larger than the largest number in L2 Yscl is the distance between tick marks on the Y-axis (or you can just hit [zoom] [stat] )

6) Graph the scatter plot [graph]

7) Perform the Linear Regression [stat] [calc] [LinReg (ax+b)] this pastes the command onto the home

screen. Now you need to type in [L1] , [L2] [enter] (On the TI-83 and 84, add [Y1] after the above command to paste.)

8) Paste equation into y= [y=] then select an empty line. [vars] [statistics] [enter] [eq] [RegEQ] [enter]

9) Graph the scatter plot and the regression line. [graph]

10) Find y-value, given an x-value [2nd] [calc] [value] [enter] then type in the x-value.

11) Find x-value, given a y-value [y=] select an open equation and enter the y-value. [graph] Find the intersection of the two lines. [2nd] [calc] [intersect] [enter] [enter] [enter] [enter]
