Minutes of the Meeting 29Th April, 2005

Minutes of the meeting Date: 29th April, 2005 Torino Place: ISMB

Attendees: Abdullah Atalar (Bilkent), Siddik Yarman (ISIK), Domenico Zito (UoP), Vittorio Camarchia (POLITO), Simona Donati (POLITO), Marco Pirola (POLITO), Daniel Bustos (POLITO), Kurt Blau (TUI), Giovanni Ghione (POLITO), Thomas Eriksson (Chalmers), Jordi Mateu (CTTC), Luca Fanucci (UoP)

 The meeting started at 9:25am.  Siddik Yarman started with his presentation. (Powerpoint file: siddikyarman.ppt)  9:50 Presentation by UU (Powerpoint file: UU presentation 050429 Italy.ppt)  10:10 Domenico Zito (UoP) (Powerpoint file: UoP.ppt)  10:50 Kurt Blau (TUI) (will send the PDF file later)  11:30 Discussion on deliverable of Antennas and RFIC clusters

It is decided that UoP takes the responsibility the deliverable “Report on design recommendations for RX/TX modules”. This deliverable’s deadline is 31th August, 2005. ISIK, TUI and UoP made a plan for this deliverable. An outline of the deliverable is prepared. UoP will be the responsible leader for this deliverable.

In parallel Nonlinearity cluster held a meeting to organize the deliverable. An outline of the deliverable is prepared which includes info on who prepares which section: DR32Outline.doc. We plan to finish this deliverable in two weeks. (Contributions should reach Abdullah by Friday 13th May)

Lunch: 12:30

Presentations started at 13:30  Giovanni Ghione and Daniel Bustos gave their presentations: (Powerpoint file: polito.ppt)  13:45 Abdullah gave his presentation: (Powerpoint file: bilkent.ppt)  14:10 Jordi presented his results: (Powerpoint file: cttc.ppt)  14:30 Thomas presented his results in two powerpoint files: Nonlinearity cancellation.ppt and an it++ program to make OFDM simulation: OFDM simulation.ppt.

At 14:50 a coffee break is given for 20 minutes. Anders from UU called from Sweden during the break. Abdullah informed him of basic decisions and the deliverable to be prepared by August 2005. At 15:15 meeting started in two separate rooms to finalize the work of Nonlinearity and Phase noise clusters in one room, and RFIC and Antennas clusters in the other room. The following topics are discussed and some decisions have been reached as summarized below:

 Interface for phase noise and amplifier classes will be specified by Chalmers. Then, any classs developed can be used by others in NoE. Thomas suggested that we should write a separate phase noise class that can be used with all kinds of modulation schemes. DQPSK implementation can be a contribution.

 Simulating the effect of nonlinearity on the neighboring channel’s BER is something that can be worked on while students are in Chalmers. (This may be publishable)

 Comparing the results of simulations with measurement results can be important.

 OFDM is very popular and linearity for OFDM systems is of utmost importance.

 Simulation of UWB systems. CTTC will produce the measurement results of UWB antennas, and Chalmers can use them in UWB system modeling. (Cooperation between CTTC and Chalmers).

 2 studens from Bilkent will go to Chalmers (after classes are over in Bilkent: End of May) while Daniel Bustos of POLITO is there.

 The deliverable “Matching network synthesis for an antenna using its measured parameters" is to be prepared under leadership of TUI and ISIK by February 2006.

 The deliverable “An antenna on the same chip as the driving electronics” will be prepared under the leadership of UU by August 2006.

Next meeting will take place in September in Uppsala.

Powerpoint files will be available on our web page as soon as they are uploaded.

Meeting ended at 16:50.

Prepared by Abdullah. (Since I was not present in the other room, I could not write anything on it. If someone can send me some information on the decisions there, I can include it in this MoM).
