Refreshments: Bottled water will be provided. Please feel free bring your own food. Registration: Maximum enrollment for any class is 40. Due to the popularity of many of these classes, early registration is encouraged. All courses will be open to participants of non-member districts two weeks before the first session of each course on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once a class is filled, no walk-ins will be allowed. Instructors: University Place Teachers: Angie Franklin and Carrie Allen Location: University Place Boardroom; 3717 Grandview Drive W Dates: March 18, 25 and April 1, 15, 22 and 29th Time: 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Registration Fee: $25 (Member) $50 (Non-Member) Credit/Clock Hrs: 2credit ($80) or 20 clock hours ($20) – PCC teachers send no money (see below) Teachers from PCC districts will have this course fee and credit fee paid by The Math: Getting it Project Grant – materials including classroom supplies for implementation will also be provided at no cost to participants. Target Audience: K-3 Teachers Why do students frequently stop "getting it" when it comes to mathematics? The Math Getting It Project will give teachers the content knowledge and instructional strategies needed for successful math instruction. Participants will also build confidence in their ability to make a difference and see ALL students really 'get it' when they teach a math lesson The learning outcomes of this course are to:  Develop content knowledge of numeracy and the concept value as it changes from pre counting to arithmetic operations  Learn to explicitly teach the concept of value using multiple mathematical models  Be able to identify and implement highly effective research-based instructional models  Learn how to explicitly teach foundational concepts that help students make connections between mathematical ideas  Understand the important role K-3 teachers play in students' future success in mathematics MARCH/APRIL 2010</p><p>The Math Getting It Project: Grades 4-7 Limited Space! 20 Max!
