<p>Voting in the General Election</p><p>Voting at a Polling Station</p><p>When you have registered to vote, you can vote in person at a polling station.</p><p>Before an election, you will be sent a poll card. This will tell you where you need to go to vote. Take the poll card with you when you go to the polling station.</p><p>If you have lost your poll card, you can find your local polling station at www.yourvotematters.co.uk</p><p>Polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 8th June 2017.</p><p>When you arrive, give the member of staff the poll card. They will cross your name off their checklist and give you a ballot paper listing candidates and parties.</p><p>Take the ballot paper to one of the booths and put an X next to the person you want to vote for.</p><p>Put your ballot paper in the ballot box provided.</p><p>You have the right to request assistance. You can bring a close family member who is over 18, or someone who is eligible to vote such a support worker. You can also ask the presiding officer at the polling station to mark your ballot paper for you. </p><p>If you have a visual impairment, you can ask for a special voting device that allows you to vote on your own in secret. A large print version of the ballot paper should also be clearly displayed in the polling station.</p><p>If you are ill or unable to go to the polling station, you can apply for an emergency proxy vote. More information can be found at www.electoralcommission.org.uk</p><p>A helpline has been set up by Mencap for anyone with a learning disability who has questions about voting, or experiences any difficulties. The number is 020 7696 6009. Voting by post</p><p>You can also apply to vote by post in future elections. To apply, go to www.gov.uk</p><p>You will receive your ballot paper by post before the day of the election. You must put an X next to the person you want to vote for, then place the ballot paper in the envelope. </p><p>You must also complete and sign the postal voting statement. </p><p>Put your ballot paper envelope and postal voting statement into the large envelope and send back in the post. It must arrive before 10.00pm on the day of the election to be</p><p> counted. </p>
