<p> MOHAWK VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE UTICA AND ROME, NEW YORK Department of Business, Cybersecurity, & Computer Sciences</p><p>COURSE OUTLINE</p><p>IS 210 Database Design Management C-2, P-2, Cr-3</p><p>Prerequisite: IS101 Introduction to Personal Computers.</p><p>Course Description: This course will enhance the knowledge of the student who is already familiar with basic database concepts. The course will focus on designing and structuring databases to meet the objectives of management. Students will use various database management systems. There will be an in-depth exploration of query capabilities and report generation. </p><p>Student Learning Outcomes: The student will learn the design and implementation of creating a working Access database from the ground up. When the student is completed with this course they will have the ability to create tables, queries, forms and reports within Access and understand the role of a database within a business setting. Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Use object design windows to set up and modify tables, queries, forms, reports, data access pages, and macros.</p><p>2. Distinguish the various data types and determine the type appropriate for a given data item</p><p>3. Define formulas to provide calculated values in queries;</p><p>4. Use property sheets to modify the properties of the fields within tables and queries and the controls within forms and reports;</p><p>5. Distinguish select, parameter, aggregate and action queries;</p><p>6. Use datasheets and forms to enter, edit and delete data;</p><p>7. Formulate macros and Visual BASIC modules; and</p><p>8. Use the specialized tools embedded in the database program to increase the efficiency and accuracy of data input, database processing, and information output.
