<p>CHAPTER 14 LEARNING OBJECTIVES</p><p>Having read this chapter, the student should be able to:  Explain the role separation plays in maturation.  Analyze the importance of separation and individuation.  Explain Erikson’s intimacy versus isolation stage and its relevance to young adulthood development.  Analyze Levinson’s research on adult development based on goal achievement.  Explain what attraction is as well as its cultural implications.  Describe the attraction-similarity hypothesis.  Define reciprocity as it applies to relationships.  Describe love and the physiological arousal that accompanies it.  Compare and contrast the different types of love.  Explain the implications of jealousy in a relationship.  Describe how loneliness affects young adults’ socioemotional development.  Describe the factors contributing to singleness.  Evaluate the effects of the factors on singleness.  Analyze the positive and negative effects of cohabitation.  Analyze the reasons why people get married as well as the different types of marriages.  Describe the factors contributing to marital satisfaction.  Explain the life changes that occur due to becoming a parent.  Describe the life changes that occur due to divorcing a partner.</p>
