FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Hardest hit students receive free trauma support and gain resiliency skills via digital programs

Baton Rouge, LA August 22, 2016 -- Along with the massive donations of food and clothing that are pouring into Louisiana is a gift that might have long-term advantages for area youth: software that treats trauma and promotes resilience in the face of adversity.

The programs, listed for children’s mental health and substance abuse prevention on

NIH/NIDA’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices, have already been making a difference in over 20 Louisiana parishes for students who need extra social-emotional supports to succeed in school.

In light of recent events, the maker of the software, a small, social enterprise called

Ripple Effects, has decided to ensure every child and adolescent in the area has access to personal supports at this time by offering all Louisiana parishes that are affected free use of the counseling and skill building programs.

Ms. Brandy Gonzales, Director of Child Welfare and Attendance, Tangipahoa Parish

School Board worries about trying to address all students’ needs: “Not only are we anticipating to have our own children returning, with extra needs, but we also anticipate transfers from our neighboring districts who were hit even harder than us.”

Alice Ray, Ripple Effects CEO says, “We know the trauma from massive flooding does not end when the water recedes. In fact it often multiplies - leaving unemployment, dislocation, homelessness, and depression in its wake. Children may react with physical distress, emotional problems and aggressive behavior. Use of these digital programs can provide big help to counselors and social workers stretched thin in addressing that trauma.”

Dr. Charles Michel, Director Special Education, LaFourche Parish School Board responds: “This is a great gesture. Many may be too busy to thank you, but I want to thank you on their behalf.”

Anyone with Internet access in the affected areas, whether at home, school, libraries, or in shelters can access the programs through October, 2016. Please contact Lew Brentano at lbrentano@rippleeffects.com or 1-888-259-6618 for details on getting the program or more information on this press release.

Contact information:

Lew Brentano

Ripple Effects

lbrentano@rippleeffects.com

1-888-259-6618

www.rippleeffects.com
