People put me aside and don’t understand my importance. They even forget to love those who are nearest to them.” Waiting no longer, Love goes out completely.

Suddenly a child enters the room and sees the three candles no longer burning. The child begins to cry “Why are you not burning, you are supposed to stay lit until the end?” Then Fourth Candle speaks gently to the little child, “Don’t be afraid, for I am Hope, and while I still burn, we can re-light the other three candles.”

Never let the Flame of Hope go out of your life. With Hope, no matter how bad things look and are….. Peace, Faith and Love Can shine brightly in our lives! They have each given many decades of service to the people in the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton. Although a priest “retires” from parish duties he is still in ministry and may, if he wishes, assist parishes with his services. We want to help our retired priests live independent lives for as long as possible. So the Diocese provides accommodation and pastoral care. As time goes on a retired priest, like any other aging person, may require more and more assistance to continue living at home. The Diocese ensures he receives all necessary personal and pastoral care. Eventually he may need to move to a residential or nursing home. The Diocese helps locate suitable accommodation. Caring for the elderly, we all know, is costly but is something we do not want to skimp on. In 2012, the Diocese spent £301,000 on our retired priests. So please help by giving generously to the Retired Priests collection. Your donation can also be Gift Aided and the tax rebate benefits your parish.

GODALMING FOOD BANK Jo Lewry would like to thank those people who offered to collect food at the different churches but at the moment the food bank at St Mark’s does not require any more items. However, Rev Beverley Hunt would like to roll the programme out to include Churches Together in Godalming. She is looking for people from each church to help with the organisation of a larger food bank, so if anyone is interested in getting involved please contact Jo on 421520 or [email protected] or Rev Beverley Hunt on 424710.

CONTAINER FOR HAITI Please can you all search for items such as used laptops, old mobile phones, bunk beds but especially school shoes for the children, any size, new or used/good condition or anything that you think would be useful to put in two 20 ft containers that Kieran Hughes is sending to Haiti in the next month. The people of Haiti, and more especially the children, are still living in appalling conditions following the terrible earthquake of 2010. Most of the children have no shoes at all. The Sisters of Charity are receiving and helping to distribute the container goods, along with Kieran and others. Please take the goods to St Joseph's presbytery, 12 Eastgate Gardens, Guildford GU1 4AZ, phone 562704 or contact Kieran on 07812062952 or Nicki Lion on 420859.

KIKI DEE COMES TO FARNCOMBE! Contact Nicki Lion for tickets on 420859 (or catch her at the back of church after the 6 p m Mass).

FAIRTRADE DAYS 2013 You are warmly invited to a sale of fairly traded crafts, Christmas cards, calendars, gifts and food, etc on Friday, 15th November from 11 a m to 7 p m and Saturday, 16th November from 11 a m to 5 p m at the home of Adrian and Colette Wyn- Griffiths, 3 Braemar Close, Godalming. Maybe it was the wrong time of year to be requesting help, but now that the days of mist and mellow fruitfulness are upon us you may like to reconsider. It is not a major commitment; the rota only needs you once every six weeks or so. If you can help please contact Ann Lloyd on 415487 or email [email protected].

ANOTHER BUMPER YEAR Well, we have raised £640.40 this year as a result of your generous sponsorship for the annual Surrey Churches Ride & Stride! Half the money goes to a central fund to help preserve Surrey churches and the rest comes back to the Parish for building- related work. Many thanks to all who took part either by riding or through sponsorship – or both. We have managed to collect virtually all the money that was pledged but, if you still have money to pay, please would you send a cheque (payable to : The Surrey Churches Preservation Trust ) and post it to Ian Honeysett at 53 Combe Road, Godalming, GU7 3SL. There is a full report of this year’s Ride on the Parish website at www.stedmundgodalming.btck.co.uk/PhotoGallery. By the way, the website is full of interesting information about our Parish so please do pay it a visit. And now you can relax – until next year.

MANY STREAMS ONE RIVER Saturday, 9th November At Pentecost 1998, Blessed John Paul II invited members of the new movements to a gathering in Rome. On that occasion he made his famous statement that the institutional and charismatic dimensions were co-essential to the divine constitution of the Church. Fifteen years on the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, Focolare, and several UK new ecclesial movements and communities are organising a day of witness, mime, music and drama, talks and testimonies as a follow on to the Rome meeting. It will be a great time to meet and celebrate the blessings we have received.

Time: 10 30 a m to 5 p m Venue: Methodist Central Hall, Westminster, London, SW1H 9NH Tickets: £12

If interested contact Richard Grey 01252 702230 (who could take you by car).
