The funds are to accelerate the final round of R&D and bring ZapGo’s novel supercapacitor technology into production.

Based at the world famous Harwell Science and Technology Campus near Oxford, ZapGo was founded in 2013. The company makes ultra-fast charge supercapacitors that can replace slow charging lithium-ion batteries. The underlying technology incorporates carbon nano-materials including graphene.

ZapGo is working with a range of customers to introduce its technology into widely used devices such as mobile phones, tablets, laptop computers, cordless power tools, robot cleaners and electric vehicles.

The supercapacitors are not only faster charging but are also safer than lithium-ion as they do not use flammable materials. They can be shipped without complying with the “UN 38.3” regulation, as they are not subject to restrictions on transporting batteries by air, which is of increased concern due to the fire hazard.

ZapGo chief executive Stephen Voller said: “This fantastic news from America reinforces the confidence investors have in our charging technology that has been developed by our UK based team. This investment will help us finish off the R&D stage of our technology and put it into production,” he added.

Note to editors:

For further information or to set up an interview with chief executive Stephen Voller call Steve Carman on 01628 526208 [email protected]

For more information about ZapGo see www.zapgo.com ZapGo’s supercpacitors ZapGo’s CEO Stephen Voller
