Students will be able to define the term “rural”. Students will understand what specific characteristics define a rural community.</p><p>Standard 1: Differentiate between urban, suburban, and rural regions.</p><p>Assessment Objective: To identify a rural community and its characteristics : small populations many have land for farming very few businesses large open spaces</p><p>Understanding (s): Students will understand there are different kinds of communities. Students will understand that each community can be identified by its characteristics.</p><p>Essential Question (s): What is a rural area? How can you identify a rural community? What characteristics identify a rural community? What are the different kinds of communities? Assessment Evidence What is your evidence of Learning:</p><p>Students’ abilities to identify a rural community by naming its characteristics.</p><p>The teacher will listen to students’ responses during whole-group discussion.</p><p>Learning Plan</p><p>Pre- Assessment: Students will be asked specific questions to check their understanding of a rural community. Learning Activities:</p><p>Students will review the power-point on communities.</p><p>Students will be asked specific questions as a whole class to check for understanding of lesson’s objectives.</p><p>Students will review information form lesson 1 and 2 on urban (cities) and suburbs.</p><p>Students will be asked to compare a city, a suburb, and a rural community based on their knowledge gained from lesson 1, 2, and 3.</p><p>At the end of the lesson, the students will be asked to complete the web on rural communities.</p><p>Post Assessment/ Lesson 1:</p><p>Complete the web on rural communities (this can be a graded assignment or whole-group).</p><p>Post Assessment/Unit Assessment:</p><p>The teacher may have students complete the post-assessment at the end of this lesson or the day after. </p><p>Rural Area</p>
