<p> End of Semester Assessment: British Literature</p><p>Assignment For this assessment, make a connection regarding theme using two different literature pieces that we have read this semester – one from the first marking period and one from the second marking period. You should use your book to find quotes from the literature to support this theme and the connection between the two pieces.</p><p>Be sure to follow all of the conventions of essay writing that you’ve learned, and also follow the rules of grammar. This is an assessment of your mastery of language and literature and the ability to articulate your ideas in writing. </p><p>You have one class period to write your essay. </p><p>Rubric This rubric reflects a standard of academic excellence (an A essay). Points will be deducted as necessary if your essay fails to meet these standards of excellence.</p><p>Ideas/Content (12 pts):  Demonstrates a profound understanding of the literature in regards to comprehension and theme.  Essay is extremely clear, focused, and thoroughly developed with at least 3 specific examples supported by direct quotes from the literature.  Proper parenthetical documentation is expected to avoid plagiarism. </p><p>Organization (8pts):  Introduction grabs attention and reveals focus;  Details are logically placed, clear and compelling; purposeful transitions;  Conclusion is cohesive, relevant, and powerful.</p><p>Conventions (5 pts):  Demonstrates an excellent grasp of conventions; very light editing needed, if at all.</p><p>Word Choice (5 pts):  Expert wording; utilizes expansive vocabulary; creates powerful and vivid images.</p><p>Sentence Fluency (5 pts):  Sentences are varied and complex in structure; flow effortlessly.</p><p>Voice (5 pts):  Individual, consistent, and powerful; reflects specific characteristics of the author.</p><p>1st Marking Period Texts: Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, stories from King Arthur, The Wife of Bath’s Tale</p><p>2nd Marking Period Texts: The Book of Margery Kempe, Macbeth, 18th Century poetry, modern short stories</p>
