<p>Dear Parents,</p><p>My name is Linda Scherba and I am the new Spanish teacher at St Joseph School and I am very excited to begin a new chapter in my teaching career.</p><p>I have studied in Spain and in South America combining the Latino Culture along with the Castilian.</p><p>Here is a list of what my students will be learning this year:</p><p>7th-8th gr we will focus on Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.</p><p>Students will have a textbook and a workbook which consists of supplemental activities which correspond to each chapter in the series.</p><p>They will be assessed with quizzes, tests, conversations and verbal dialogue. Spanish websites will be frequently used.</p><p>Grammar and Theory will be greatly emphasized along with Hispanic culture as well as Latin American.</p><p>Homework is not only written assignments, but reviewing and studying what was taught the previous day.</p><p>Learning a language is cumulative and students must study on a daily basis as new material is introduced in each lesson.</p><p>If a student misses an assignment, they will receive a “0.” If 2 assignments are missed, parents will be contacted. If the student submits the assignment in a timely manner, the zero is removed. Each missed assignment is 4 points off their homework grade. All students begin with 100% on homework, at the start of each new marking period.</p><p>I offer extra help during their recess time. Students can attend as often as needed.</p><p>6th gr: Students will engage in basic dialogue and mini-conversations.</p><p>Spelling rules will also be introduced. Grading will be based on group skits and oral assessments.</p><p>Grades PreK-5: Students will learn a broad variety of vocabulary:</p><p>Weather</p><p>Seasons, Months, Days, Dates</p><p>Family and Relatives</p><p>Numbers 1-100, Colors</p><p>Parts of the Body</p><p>Foods</p><p>Rooms in a House</p><p>Grading will be based on Projects</p><p>I am looking forward to a great year with your children.</p>
