Rosemary St. Thank you for your interest in serving.</p><p>2 About The Daily Tar Heel (DTH Media Corp.) Board of Directors</p><p>The DTH, now 119 years old, incorporated its operation in 1989 as a separate educational 501(c) (3) non-profit legal entity from the University and formed a student-majority board of directors to govern its non-editorial operations. The DTH stopped taking student fee money in 1993, making it completely financially independent for the first time. It now generates all of its own revenues, primarily from the sale of local retail display advertising. The paper, an officially recognized student organization, moved off- campus to an office building at 151 E. Rosemary St. </p><p>The DTH employs seven full-time professionals in non-editorial functions, and the student editor is vested with final authority over the news content of the paper. At the height of the school year, there are some 80 paid, part-time student employees in news, advertising, customer service and production functions and another 120 or more student volunteers. </p><p>Board of Directors General Powers</p><p>The affairs of the corporation shall be managed by its Board of Directors provided that the Editor of The Daily Tar Heel is vested with final authority and responsibility over the form and the contents of the newspaper. Management duties shall include:</p><p> a) establishment of non-editorial policies; b) Approval of the annual budget for the DTH Media Corp.; c) Serving as publisher of The Daily Tar Heel; d) Employ all full-time personnel pursuant to contracts entered into by the Board; e) Enter into any contract or execute and deliver any instrument in the name of and behalf of the corporation, and such authority may be general or confined to specific instances; f) Annually review the standard operating procedures for the management of DTH Publishing Corporation; g) Annually direct the search for the Editor of The Daily Tar Heel; h) Annually direct the search for new board members to fill board vacancies.</p><p>Mission Statement</p><p>To act as an adjunct to the academic experiences of students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill by publishing a wide range of issues and views and by informing students and other members of the University and surrounding communities about local news and events; To act as a laboratory that provides education and training for students in all facets of publishing, editing, and managing a daily newspaper and its electronic companion channels including the coverage of political news and the preparation of editorial comments which serve as a vital part of the university’s educational mission by improving and/or developing students’ journalistic capabilities; To promote the tradition of editorial freedom and high journalistic standards, professional ethics, teamwork and service among its student participants; To cause to be published and to distribute a daily newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel, and a news website, Dailytarheel.com.</p><p>Meetings</p><p>The board generally meets once a month for about an hour in September, October, November, January, February, March and April.
