ED MANLEY, MCFE, President, IFSEA

Dear Sir or Madam:

In October, 2005; Ed Manley, MCFE; traveled to upstate New York to conduct The IFSEA Sanitation Symposium for the Syracuse Branch. I feel compelled to write this letter for those who may be contemplating hosting or attending a symposium in the future.

Mr. Manley’s credentials are impeccable! A Cornell graduate with many years of industry experience, Mr. Manley is able to quickly connect with his students and bring theory to reality. He has an excellent command of the subject matter and more importantly, he uses real-life applications to allow the students to not only understand but use the material in their operations.

The Syracuse class was extremely diverse. We had managers with many years of experience from many different industry segments, (suppliers, college/school food service, food production and processing facilities, restaurants and healthcare). In addition, several college students, some with no experience and some with a few years of experience were part of the class. Mr. Manley was able to quickly assess the background and learning styles of all of the individuals in the class and provide a learning experience that was rated as excellent by 100% of the participants. I personally observed Mr. Manley’s teaching and can tell you it was superb! He is fully prepared for each class and used a highly interactive style that encourages discussion, input and specific questions. Not only is Ed Manley certified by NSF to teach the HACCP classes; he boasts one of the highest pass rates in the nation!

The bottom line is all about the value of the certification symposium to the participants. I am happy to report that each student in this symposium earned their certifications. This has positioned many for promotions at their jobs and given all participants an additional credential they can use when applying for increasing levels of responsibility. In addition, several of the participants have created HACCP plans and introduced operational enhancements that will benefit their customers. Others have initiated new training sessions to share their new knowledge with their employees. At the IFSEA branch level, the Certification Symposium has generated new excitement AND six new members!

The true value of any learning experience is in the outcomes created. Ed Manley is a caring and talented instructor. He brings enthusiasm and genuine concern for the students to his teaching. We are in the process of hosting our second symposium, in April! This is clear evidence of the value of the Certification Symposium!

It is my sincere pleasure to most highly recommend Mr. Ed Manley, MCFE and the IFSEA certification symposium to you. I have every confidence that this type of educational experience benefits the participants, their operations, the host branch and most certainly our industry!

Sincerely,

Dr. Joan Johnson, CFE SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor President IFSEA Syracuse Branch

Sincerely, Dr. Joan Johnson, CFE Professor/Curriculum Coordinator Hospitality Technology
