<p> Professional Standards in Agribusiness Course Syllabus 8/23-12/17, 2010</p><p>To be prepared for careers in agribusiness systems, student need to attain academic skills and knowledge, acquire technical knowledge and skills related to leadership development and the workplace, and develop knowledge and skills regarding agricultural career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings, This course primarily focuses on leadership, communication, employer-employee relations, and problem solving as they relate to agribusiness. </p><p>In this class you will:</p><p>1. Learn the employability characteristics of a successful contributor to the modern agricultural workplace.</p><p>2. Demonstrate professional development related to effective leadership in agribusiness.</p><p>3. Evaluate employer and employee responsibilities for occupations in agriculture, food, and natural resources.</p><p>4. Communicate effectively with groups and individuals.</p><p>5. Identify professional agricultural communications in relation to using appropriate spoken communication and procedures.</p><p>6. Demonstrate the factors of group and individual efficiency. 7. Identify involvement opportunities in agribusiness professional organizations.</p><p>8. Identify and research current agribusiness issues.</p><p>Class expectations:</p><p>1. RESPECT a. Everything else listed directly ties into this expectation. 2. Pay FFA dues (not an option) 3. Come to class prepared and on time 4. Register with chapter website http://www.follett.ffanow.org 5. Take notes on class lectures and discussions 6. Actively participate in class discussions 7. Complete assignments on time, whether group or individual</p><p>Grading:</p><p>1. 50% derived from participation in classroom discussion, activities, & assignments</p><p>2. 50% derived from end of semester presentation a. You will present a 15 minute presentation on an agriculture career. b. You will be expected to be professional during the presentation. c. Pictures, posters, slideshows, and handouts are encouraged. d. The final grade will be broken up into four different categories. d.i. Professionalism d.i.1. Dress, speaking ability, etc. d.ii. Coverage of topic d.iii. Ability to relate to audience d.iv. Overall presentation score to be determined by class.</p>
