In healthcare organisations in particular, ICT is a tool that offers an opportunity to provide smarter, safer and patient-centred healthcare in a more efficient and cost-effective manner by transforming the way they function. However, transformation is only successful where there are effective strategies and appropriate leadership to implement the change. The introduction of ICT-enabled change can be a complex exercise and has been proven to be problematic globally. In Irish healthcare, implementation efforts of ICT-enabled change have met serious challenges and constraints (DOH 2013). It has been found that lack of effective leadership is one of the major factors behind the failure of implementation of these initiatives in Irish healthcare (Burke & McDonagh 2009). In this regard, this research proposes to carry out an in-depth analysis of implementation processes and their success and failure in implementing ICT enabled change in healthcare. The research work will be carried out across a number of hospitals in Ireland using a combination of qualitative and quantitative research. The specific purpose of the study is to: 1. Conduct an in-depth investigation into the current challenges in implementing ICT-enabled change in organisations</p><p>2. Explore how healthcare leaders view implementation of ICT-enabled change at the strategic level</p><p>3.
