<p> UNIT 1 MEDIA - JUNE EXAM PREP SHEET </p><p>Core texts for revision:</p><p>Buffy, Welcome to the Hellmouth, The Harvest, Teacher’s Pet, Joss Whedon Salt, View the revenge scene @ 59.00-1.01.15 Phillip Noyce </p><p>The exam will be divided into 3 sections corresponding to the three outcomes in Unit 1 VCE Media.</p><p>Outcome 1: will test your understanding of representations, the media codes used to construct them, and Key Advice: subtexts in Joss Whedon’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and Evelyn Salt’s character in “Salt”  You will have 15 minutes to read the questions and 90 minutes to complete the exam. Outcome 2: will test your creative ability to create representations by designing a plan for a smart phone commercial either as a realistic or satirical video, or in print format such as a billboard or glossy magazine  Mostad. of the questions will ask you to identify, describe (provide examples), analyse, or explain so make sure you address each question appropriately Outcome 3: will test your ability to discuss the use of new media technology(s) and present a considered  Sectionopinion 2 on will how be ita hasdesign impacted task. You on societywill be required (Game Addiction)to demonstrate your knowledge of media codes and your understanding of technologies of representation by designing through the use of rough sketches and text annotations, a media product in a format that you identify as being the most suitable given the design task. Bring coloured pencils, greylead, a ruler and an eraser into the exam.</p><p> All your answers can be written on the exam paper. If you require more paper you will be able to ask the teacher. Make sure to write your name and the question number(s) on any extra sheets.</p><p> Allocate your time carefully. It’s better to write a response for every question than leave a question completely unanswered (you may utilize dot points to finish off a question if you see you’re running out of time) </p><p>SECTION 1 </p><p>Media texts, whether they are moving images like films, videos and TV shows, or still images like posters or photographs, are constructed versions of reality or, “representations”. Media representations are constructed by applying production techniques (technical and symbolic codes) that are generally recognized and able to be “read” by the target audience. These production codes provide the media texts’ meaning for audiences because they are derived from the culture’s value system dominant at the time of production. For example our Western culture </p><p>1 accepts that the colour ‘red’ in a TV series like Buffy can stand for passion or danger but probably not comedy or contemplation. NOTE: Use correct media terminology.
