Proof of age may be required from birth certificates. Age is measured at 30 th June each year.</p><p>ENTRIES 1) Entries MAY BE POSTED OR REGISTERED ON-LINE. 2) On-line entries will not be recorded until cleared by the bank. 3) Posted entries must be accompanied by cheque or money order. DO NOT SEND CASH THROUGH THE MAIL. The Showcase Committee will not be held responsible for any cash lost in the mail. 4) Late entries will be accepted up to one week after the closing date and will attract a $10.00 late entry fee per person. THERE WILL BE NO REFUND FOR NON-APPEARANCE 5) Refunds of entry fees will be made to an entrant only if a section has been cancelled by the Executive Committee. 6) The Executive Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry. 7) The Executive Committee reserves the right to reschedule, combine, divide or cancel any sections. 8) The Executive Committee reserves the right to vary the prizes in any section. (e.g. where there are insufficient performers) RULES FOR PERFORMERS 1) Performers must register AT LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE COMMENCEMENT OF EACH SECTION . 2) NO MUSIC IS REQUIRED FOR THE ADJUDICATOR FOR CONTEMPORARY POPULAR, MODERN BALLAD, COUNTRY SOLOS, ALL JAZZ SECTIONS UNLESS NOTIFIED PRIOR TO SHOWCASE. For all other sections the performer must give the Registrar a copy of their chosen piece for the Adjudicator at the time of registration. EACH BAR TO BE CLEARLY NUMBERED. NO PHOTOCOPYING FACILITIES ARE AVAILABLE AT THE REGISTRATION DESK. 3) Each song can only be performed once by a performer/group during Showcase.(Exception Rule 15 Vocal Special Conditions). 4) Only names supplied on entry forms will be able to compete. Where there is more than one performer i.e. Duet, Trio or Quartet Sections, only the first performer’s name will be required. If other names are supplied at the time of entry then these names will be printed in the program. A list of the names of performers in each group must be handed to the Registrar at the time of Registration. 5) A high standard of decorum is expected from all performers and spectators. Unseemly, unpleasant or disruptive behavior contrary to the spirit of the event will result in the offender being asked to leave. Offending entrants will be disqualified. 6) Performers agree that they enter at their own risk. The Committee requires all performers to be responsible for insuring themselves or members against personal injury arising out of participation in the Showcase.</p><p>VOCAL SPECIAL CONDITIONS 1) Novice sections are for competitors who have never won a first prize at any previous competitions prior to 2013. 2) A minimum of three entrants per section is required at the close of entries to enable a section to run from Under 17 Section and upwards. 3) Performers will be given the opportunity to move to another section before the program is finalized if there are insufficient entries in a section for it to run. 4) Entry Fees will be refunded if a nominated section is cancelled and the performer chooses to withdraw. 5) Performers may sing accompanied, unaccompanied, or self-accompanied on piano, clavinova, keyboard or acoustic guitar. 6) Performers are expected to dress appropriately for their age, including footwear. 7) There are no set time limits for sections but performers are advised to keep performances to under four minutes. 8) Performers entering Music Theatre sections must supply the name of Show from which the performed song is taken. 9) Performers entering an aria section must present a brief introduction of the aria to the adjudicator and audience. 10) There are no set time limits for sections but performers are advised to keep performances to under four minutes. 11) All performers must abide by general theatre rules. 12) MICROPHONES AND BACKING TRACKS Microphones and backing tracks may be used in: o Contemporary Popular - Sections 12, 22, 33, 45 o Modern Ballad – 5, 11, 20, 32, 42 o Jazz – Sections 30, 39, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 72 o Country Song – Sections 27, 46 a) Performers may perform to a professional backing disc containing backing music only i.e. no voices. b) Performers may use either a compact disc (CD) or a digital sound device (eg. iPod, iphone, etc (on flight mode). c) Showcase technical staff have final say on suitability of any digital sound device. d) If using a CD, performers are asked to ensure that there is only one song per CD e) Self Accompanied and Self Composed Sections 36, 49, 50 performers may use a microphone. f) Performers requiring a microphone and or backing track (Note (a) above) must notify the Registrar at the time of registration so that backstage arrangements can be made. Failure to do so may prevent the use of this equipment. g) Any mechanical rights which should be obtained in respect of recorded music for performance is the responsibility of the performer. Showcase holds a licence issued by APRA for the live performance of published music. 13) Glenys Murrell Aria - Open (Section 58) To be eligible for this section competitors are required to perform in Sections 58: Glenys Murrell Aria, 59: Art Song in English. 60: Lied, 61: Sacred Solo 14) Aggregate Prizes a) The Aggregate will be determined by adding points assigned to first, second and third places won in Sections 58, 59, 60, 61. Points are assigned thus – first, 5 points; second, 3 points; third,1 point. b) Aggregate Tie. Where a tie for the aggregate occurs, reassessment is made thus: o greatest number of firsts to determine the winner. o If firsts are equal, then greatest number of seconds decides the winner. o In the event of number of seconds being equal, then greatest number of thirds will decide the winner. o If a tie still exists prize money will be divided. c) If there are insufficient entries to run any Aggregate sections, Showcase Executive Committee reserves the right to with-hold the Aggregate prize money or may use a proportion of the prize money for other awards.. 15) Section Heats a) Depending on the number of entries, some sections may be run in heats. b) Entrants from heats may be called back by the Adjudicator to perform the same song in the final. c) Performers will be notified of a recall following the running of the final heat for that section. Points will not be announced and critique sheets for any section run in heats, will not be available until the completion of the Program on the final night of Showcase. CHORAL SPECIAL CONDITIONS 1) A conductor may conduct more than one choir. 2) A choir may have only one conductor in any one section. 3) A conductor may not sing with the choir. 4) Vocalists may sing in several choirs for the same prize. 5) Each choir will provide their own accompanists and ensure that they are available at the specified section times. 6) Backing tracks may be used to accompany a choir but must comply with the conditions outlined in the schedule. Performers may perform to a professional backing disc containing backing music only, i.e. no voices. 7) There are no set time limits for Choir sections. Please take note of suggested time limits on Sections 76, 77, 78. 8) A choral section will still run if only one choir enters and that choir will receive adjudication. Any prize money offered for that section will be negotiated between the Committee and the Sponsor for that section. ADJUDICATOR 1) The Adjudicator’s decision on the suitability of any item is final. Performers are advised to select age appropriate songs and lyrics for their performance. An adjudicator has the right to penalize a performer if it is deemed that lyrics are inappropriate. 2) The Adjudicator’s decision on any placing is final and disqualification is at his/her discretion within the bounds of the Showcase rules. 3) Communication with the Adjudicator, either by performers or interested parties is ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED. Any such communication may result in disqualification by the Showcase Executive Committee. 4) A critique sheet will be available at the front of house approximately 15 minutes after each section unless otherwise advised by the Showcase Committee. 5) Competitors must not have been pupils of; or had singing lessons with the Adjudicator in the six- (6) months prior to Showcase. ACCOMPANIST 1) An Official Accompanist is available for performers. Names and contact details are available through the Showcase Secretary. 3) Fees and rehearsal arrangements are to be negotiated between the performer and the accompanist. 4) The score must be provided to the accompanist one month prior to the performance or by arrangement with the accompanist . The music must be presented in good order. Manuscript copy will not be accepted. NOTE: AN OFFICIAL ACCOMPANIST WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE WITHOUT PRIOR ARRANGEMENT COMMITTEE POLICY 1) Copyright: The following will apply:- a) Performers must use original material copies or authorised photocopies. (Authorised photocopies must be accompanied by a letter from the Publisher or Copyright Holder). b) Schools may use “AMCOS” stamped photocopies as per AMCOS Agreement. c) A photocopy provided for the adjudicator will be destroyed after use. These rules are in accordance with the directions of the Australian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society and Copyright Agencies Limited, and NO variations will be permitted. Showcase holds an APRA licence. 2) The Limestone Coast Showcase will not be liable for any copyright infringement relating to the submission of photocopies. Entrants should be aware of the rules of copyright. 3) Protests must be made in writing and presented to the Showcase Coordinator within 15 minutes of the Adjudicator’s decision. A fee of $20 must accompany the request. The fee will be forfeited if the request is seen to be unfounded. THE DECISION OF THE COMMITTEE IS FINAL. 4) Ties. In the event of ties for first prize, the first and second prize money will be combined and divided equally between the winners. No second prize will be awarded. The same rule will apply if 2nd place is tied. The 3rd prize will not be awarded. If 3rd is tied that prize money will be divided equally. For trophy sections, no ties will be permitted. 5) No cameras, video cameras, tape recorders, mobile phones or pagers are permitted to be used in the theatre. Performances are copyright. MOBILE PHONES AND PAGERS MUST BE TURNED OFF BEFORE ENTERING THE THEATRE. The official photographer will be the only exception to the rule. 6) Stage Effects. No lighted candles, sparklers, lighted cigarettes or any naked flames are permitted on the stage. 7) All performers are responsible for any props used in a performance. Performers requiring props must notify the Registrar at the time of registration so that backstage arrangements can be made. Failure to do so may prevent the use of this equipment. 8) Performers agree that they enter at their own risk. The Executive Committee requires all performers to be responsible for insuring themselves or members of groups, against personal injury arising out of participation in the Showcase.
