Base units are known/set sizes for length (meter), volume (liter), mass (gram), etc. Prefixes are added to base units to make larger and smaller units of measurement. (ALSO, in Metrics, ALL UNITS are divided into 10 equal parts, so decimals can be used to describe fractions of a unit.
