Art I stresses the principles of good design while trying to introduce the student to as many media as possible. The student will be introduced to media such as: pencil drawing, pen and ink, calligraphy, perspective drawing, tempera paint, watercolor paint, cartoon drawing, clay, oil and chalk pastel and architectural house plans. Art II is a detailed study of the different materials available to the artist and the techniques involved in combination to achieve special effects. Art III is a study of awareness and sensitivity to natural and man made environments, inventive and imaginative expression through art materials and tool, the understanding and appreciation of self and others through art culture and heritage, and aesthetic growth through visual discrimination and judgment. Art IV is further development of the exploration of the elements and principals of art, and experimentation with a variety of art media as related to the theories of creative development and/or appreciation of a variety of visual art forms. </p><p>REQUIRED MATERIALS:</p><p>Pencil #2 (not plastic) Ballpoint pen (black) Eraser-Magic Rub or equivalent Ruler -12” or smaller Glue Stick or small bottle of glue Scissors any kind or size Zipper storage bag or Ziploc bag (any container for supplies) Handheld pencil sharpener</p><p>Art I-Portfolio, can be made from one sheet of poster board folded in half Art II, III, IV- Portfolio, purchased from art supply store or can be made from two sheets of poster board taped together on three sides with a durable wide tape (duct or packing tape will work)</p><p>HOMEWORK:</p><p>Art students are assigned classroom art projects with sufficient completion time as long as they work productively during class. Any work not completed may be taken home in order to meet deadlines. Students are assigned free choice drawings that are due according to the following schedule.</p><p>Art I – Two free choices due Friday of the third week and Friday of the fifth week of every six weeks. No cartoons, designs or white paper! Art II – Four free choices are due Friday of the 3 rd and 5th week of every six weeks. No cartoons, designs, or white paper! Art III - Five free choices due one at the end of every week for the first 5 weeks of the six weeks. Cartoons, designs, and white paper are allowed! Art IV – Two free choice drawings due every six weeks. Cartoons, designs and white paper are allowed! Free Choice Media chart –</p><p>Watercolor Pen and ink Chalk pastel Tempera paint Oil pastels Calligraphy Oil painting Mixed media pencil marker Prisma color Ballpoint pen</p><p>CLASS DISCIPLINE:</p><p>Discipline will be done on an individual basis. If you receive detention, you will have that day and 3 additional days to attend. Detention begins at 3:25 p.m. After school detention will result if: 1) After verbal warning student continues to talk. 2) Misusing Art supplies. 3) Refusing to clean-up his/her art supplies or not storing artwork properly. 4) Leaning back on studio stool. 5) Student does not move to his chair when the tardy bell rings. 6) Removing art supplies or books out of the classroom without permission.</p><p>The student will have three days to make up this detention, otherwise a referral form will be sent to the office and the number of days will be doubled. If repeated problems occur the parent/guardian of the child will be notified by phone, note or email. </p><p>GRADES:</p><p>Daily Grades 50%</p><p>Major Grades and or Projects 50% </p><p>All assignments are graded on an individual basis. You will be graded on your ability, not your classmates. </p><p>CLASSROOM PROCEDURES AND RULES:</p><p>Supply room doors should remain closed. Students should not enter without permission. </p><p>No food, gum, or beverages are allowed within the classroom. </p><p>If you are outside and enter the room after the bell for any reason it is considered an unexcused tardy. If you need to go to the restroom, come to class first, get a hall pass. Otherwise an unexcused tardy will result! Students are allowed one hall pass per six weeks. If the hall pass is not used the student will receive one free choice grade to be counted towards the fifth week free choice. </p><p>IMPORTANT- When you enter the classroom, begin working on your artwork, if you are in Art II,III, or IV. If you are in Art I, begin on your sketchbook assignment. However, when you hear the bell ring, I expect you to be seated immediately. I will call roll, then you may proceed in getting started on your project. Textbook and drawing books are for classroom use only. All finished work is to be handed in on the appropriated shelf according to class period. All class work is due the Friday of the fifth week of the six weeks. All portfolios are to be stored in the proper bins according to your class period. </p>
