Parents/Guardians

Parents/Guardians,

I am delighted to have your child in my classroom. I want each and every student to have a very successful 3rd/4th grade year. I know this is possible if we work together. I am available for phone calls or conferences every day during my planning period, so don’t hesitate to call or stop by.

Let’s begin with attendance. I want each and every child to make perfect attendance their initial goal. However, I know sometimes sickness does occur and I understand. But any other appointments such as haircuts and dentist please try to schedule them after school hours. Please encourage your child to come to school, be on time, and try their absolute best.

Next, my school supply list is flexible. Students may buy the paper and pencil types they want, but I do expect every child to come to school every day with paper, pencil, a dry erase marker, a highlighter, and a folder to keep handouts in. All students will also need a pair of working headphones for the computer lab. Please place the headphones in a

Ziploc bag with the students name on the bag. If you would like to donate a bottle of hand sanitizer, dry erase makers, Kleenex, or Clorox wipes, that would be greatly appreciated. Third/Fourth grade students will receive a folder to take home each night. This folder will contain homework assignments (Please sign the homework sheet each night to show that you have went over all assignments with your child. I expect students to copy homework assignments from the white board daily. The folder will also contain any test that your child has taken (I would love it if you would sign any test that I send home and then send them back to school). This folder will contain various materials that you may need or want to see (such as a reading log, notes home, work your child has completed, etc..). This is a big part of our communication. You may send me notes/letters in this folder. I will check it daily.

This year I will be using a behavior system called “Class Dojo”. I used this last year toward the end of the school year and the students loved it. Students can earn extra rewards for good behavior but if they have bad behavior there will be consequences, if bad behavior continues to be a problem I will call home to discuss the behavior.

With all that being said, please remind your child to complete all their assignments, get their homework sheet signed, get assessments or fluencies signed, and read for AR points. Forgetting to get something signed will result in a point lost on our behavior system “Class Dojo”. I think this builds organization skills and responsibility within students. Thank you in advance for your help because I know if we work together your child will have a very successful year. 

Mrs. Spencer
