Solar Oven Team Work-Concept Model

Solar Oven Team Work-Concept Model Exp Tech 10 Name(s) ______

In this stage of the design process you with your team mates will select one the designs put forth, create a technical drawing of your concept model, and a material list which incorporates a life plan for the materials you plan to use.

Tasks

1. You are to look at three design proposals that have been developed by other classmates. From these three you are to do a selection matrix upon which you will select the design to which you will create your concept model.

2. A short paragraph should be given explaining why you selected the model that you did select.

3. You need to create a technical drawing for your concept model. In a technical drawing, all information needed to manufacture a component or an entire assembly are needed to be drawn out. The presentation must be clearly identified so that when you read the drawing no confusion may occur. The drawing will be evaluated on the following criteria:

3.1 The number of views presented. You need to determine if you will show it in 3-D or with 3 points of view. To see all information about the object in the drawing usually must accommodate multiple views from different view directions are presented. Often also cut views of the component or assembly is needed to represent covert geometries.

3.2 The drawing must be technically correct and accurate in all aspects. The correct proportion; no exaggeration or distortion, should be given.

3.3 A precise scale is given to the drawing. Scaling is used to depict objects on paper that are either larger or smaller than the paper.  If the object is larger than the paper, then the views of the object are scaled Down  If the object is smaller than the paper, then the views of the object are scaled Up  If the object fits on the paper, then the views are depicted at Full scale (1:1) Generally Decimal Inch or Metric scaling is used The number on the left of the colon indicates the units on the Page. The number on the right of the colon indicates the Units on the Object or PAGE: OBJECT You want to think of it like this when you see a Decimal Inch scale of 1:2 ONE UNIT ON THE PAGE = TWO UNITS ON THE OBJECT, or 1/2 Scale.

3.4 The box around the drawing is called the Title Block or the Format. Your page for the drawing should have a 1 cm border drawn around. In the lower right-hand corner a title block where the project title, the drawer’s name, scale, date and drawing number are incorporated. The lettering of the information is to be consistent and legible.

3.5 A full array of lines is used for depicting the information needed. A line should be consistent for their full length as they cannot vary in thickness from one segment to the next. Types of Lines Object lines - depict the visible edges of an object. The edges you would see looking at the object with your naked eyes. They are shown as dark, solid lines. Hidden lines - depict invisible edges inside an object. The edges you would not see looking at the object with your naked eyes. They are shown as dashed lines. Center lines - depict the center of any cylindrical-shaped object whether it is a cylinder or hole. They are shown as a long line followed by a short line, followed by a long line.

3.6 Dimension must be given on the drawing. Dimensions tell how far it is from one point on an object to another point. The most basic type is called a Linear Dimension because it gives the straight- line distance from one point to another. There are also Radial, Diameter and Angular Dimensions. Dimensions have four basic components: - Dimension -Text Dimension Line and - Arrows Extension Lines - Gap

3.7 Materials, surface information, components and notes should be provided for understanding. The material that is supposedly cut is "Hatched" with patterns. The patterns often depict the actual material of the object. Notes are added text to describe things on the drawing. The simplest type is just text, as in the title of the drawing. The other type of note contains a leader, which is an arrow that points to the subject of the note. Sample of material markings

4. A material list need to be developed which is a precise listing of the materials, and mounts of materials needed. This includes fasteners, glues, tapes, paints, nails, and such things.

A life plan for each article that you incorporate into your design needs to be given. This a short explanation for each item explaining what will happen to the material once it is no longer to be used in your solar oven. Remember we are working towards a cradle to cradle concept, meaning we want to recycle or reuse the materials.

5. This page and all the above are to be given a title page and passed in for evaluation.

Grading

Choice of Concept (matrix, paragraph) 0 1 2 3 4

Drawing (Views, Correctness, scale, precision, lines, 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 dimensions, materials) Layout (border, title box, clean look) 0 1 2 3 4

Material list ( complete, amounts, life plan) 0 1 2 3 4

Completion of Tasks 0 1 2 3 4 5
