AP LANG a GREAT Place to Be

AP LANG … A GREAT place to be! Here are a few reminders for second semester AP LANG.

1. Locate the class blog and save it as a favorite! http://lhsblogs.typepad.com/gasaway You are responsible for anything on the website, even if I forget to say it in class. You never know; there may be incentives for checking!

2. Make a note of my contact info: [email protected] and sign up for Remind 101 – text @46d6e3 to the number 81010

3. We’ll conclude our memoir unit this semester with a Book Club focused on the book you selected before break. You’ll be meeting with your group tomorrow to make a plan. We’ll talk more about what you’ll be doing then. 

4. As usual, I hope you’ll consider donating a couple packs of notebook paper (college ruled) to the class and also some tissues (as it is cold/flu season). Paper towels and Clorox wipes are nice, also We’ll be using even more paper this semester than last (see #10)

5. You should NEVER have your cell phone out unless I say it’s okay- this has become a problem, so steps must be taken… this semester if I see your phone and you have not asked permission you will owe me a detention – this rudeness has to stop.

6. You’ll need to get a NEW copy (preferably NOT used) of A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan – we’ll probably be reading it 2nd six weeks. Do you want to talk about a group order?

7. You should replenish your supplies notebook paper, at least FOUR colors of highlighters, 3x5 index cards, pencils and pens (red one?), maybe post-it notes, too. ** Your AP Lang handbook should be in the notebook you bring to class daily.

8. Vocabulary begins Tuesday, January 16th with week 1 quiz. The word list is on the blog —get it there; let me know if you have any problems! Cards for week one will be due 1/12.

9. You will begin Reading is Fundamental this semester – see the RIF assignment sheet for details.

10. You will be writing in class most weeks. Further, you should be practicing for the SAT using both the College Board and the NYT questions of the day (links on my blog).

11. You will be using USATestPrep for American Lit EOC prep, so stay tuned for details about that. Our EOC is currently scheduled for April 30 – May 2.

12. The AP Lang Exam is Wednesday, May 16 th. We’re going to have a great semester. I am really looking forward to it!
