<p> P a g e | 1 BEAVERTON ROTARY </p><p>Be an EXCHANGE STUDENT! Each year, Beaverton Rotary Club sponsors one high school student to take part in a one-year Rotary Youth Exchange Program for study in another country. The countries available for exchange in the 2012-2013 academic year are Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Demark, Finland, France, United Kingdom, Guatemala, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Peru, Russia, Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey. A student may request assignment to a preferred country, but there is no guarantee that he or she will be sent there. This is a wonderful opportunity to make new friends, experience a different culture, learn a new language, and be an Ambassador for your country. Students should apply to be part of this exchange at the beginning of their sophomore year of high school. The student who is selected will spend his/her junior year in the host country, then return home for their senior year to graduate with their class. Each student will live with several Host Families. It is not necessary to be a family member of a Rotarian or to be recommended by a Rotarian to apply. The student who is selected will be required to pay airfare to and from the host country and a $1600 orientation fee for insurance, meals during multiple orientation sessions, a blazer and business cards. The student will also be required to post an emergency fund of $500, which will be refunded if not used. There will be an information meeting on Thursday Oct. 20 at 6:30 pm in TV and Appliances store at 3600 SW Hall in Beaverton for interested students and parents.
