Marylène Tucci, IDF Communications and Public Affairs Assistant, +32 2 706 86 44</p><p>Brussels, 21 November 2004 –The International Dairy Federation (IDF) today announced that Jim Begg (United Kingdom) has been elected as its President.</p><p>Mr Begg was elected at the IDF’s General Assembly in Melbourne, Australia, for a four- year term. </p><p>Edward Hopkin, Director General of the IDF, said: “We are delighted Jim has been elected to our presidency. He is well-respected in the dairy industry on a national and international level. We are sure he will make an enormous contribution to the IDF.” </p><p>Mr Begg said, “It’s a great privilege to be elected to the IDF Presidency. The dairy industry faces great change internationally, and the IDF is uniquely placed to assist companies around the world on a whole range of scientific, economic, marketing and environmental issues. I’m looking forward to the challenge”. </p><p>Mr Begg, 54, is currently the Director General of Dairy UK, the recently created organisation that represents and promotes the interests of the entire dairy industry in the UK. </p><p>Educated at Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Scotland, where he graduated with a degree in Economics and Marketing, Mr Begg joined the Scottish Milk Marketing Board in 1972, where he spent 10 years until joining the Milk Marketing Board for England and Wales as Head of Milk Prices.</p><p>Prior to the creation of Dairy UK, Mr Begg was Director General of both the Dairy Industry Federation (DIF) (1998 – 2002) and its successor organization, The Dairy Industry Association (DIAL) (2002-2004). He sits on a number of dairy-related Boards and representative committees, both in the UK and in the EU.</p><p>1 The International Dairy Federation was founded in 1903.
