<p> Minutes, 2009 Business Meeting, MRCSOT</p><p>The Midwest Regional Chapter, Society of Toxicology spring meeting was held at the Marriott Lincolnshire resort, May 1, 2009. The spring business meeting of the MRC-SOT was called to order by President Peter Thomford at 12:50 PM. </p><p>I. Minutes</p><p>The minutes of the 2008 spring meeting were approved. </p><p>II. President’s Report</p><p>Peter Thomford gave a brief report on the status of the chapter including the good turn out for the meeting and the excellent slate of candidates. </p><p>III. Treasurer’s Report</p><p>Our balance as of March 31, 2009 was $18,658.99. Prior to the Spring meeting, we had received $3,500 in sponsorships and donations. </p><p>IV. Membership</p><p>Louette Rausch reported there were approximately 150 members. National has indicated they will provide a list of individuals who have not yet paid dues and send them reminders. Names of new members will be submitted to National.</p><p>V. New Council Members</p><p>Present-Elect: Matt Schroeder, Covance Laboratories</p><p>Treasurer: Molly Weiler, Covance Laboratories Councilor: Susan Henwood, Covance Laboratories</p><p>Councilor: Lise Loberg, Abbott Laboratories</p><p>VI. DuBois Award</p><p>The award was presented to Barbara Struthers by Don Korte.</p><p>Barbara has worked all of her life in the Midwest. Since 2001, she has been a consultant with her own firm, BJ Struthers, Ltd. in Deerfield, IL. In that position, she is a consultant to the pharmaceutical industry on regulatory issues in toxicology and litigation support. Prior to working as a consultant, she has held positions at Discovery International (VP, Scientific and Editorial Services; Deerfield, IL), G.D. Searle & Co. (Numerous positions; Skokie, IL) and Ralston Purina Company (manager of Toxicology; St. Louis, MO). She has her Board Certification in Toxicology (DABT) since 1981.</p><p>Barbara was also active in the Midwest Regional Chapter, Society of Toxicology as Secretary, 2004-6; President, 1992-3; President-elect, 1991-2; Councilor, 1987-89; Society of Toxicology, ethics committee, 1987-89. Barbara really has done a lot for MRC/SOT regarding membership and obtaining sponsors for meetings. She was instrumental in getting Curt Klaassen to speak at an MRC/SOT Fall meeting a few years ago. Barbara also has dozens of publications and a patent. </p><p>VII. Victor A. Drill Award</p><p>The first place poster Victor Drill Award was presented to Qing Liu who received a $1,500 grant for his poster entitled “Time and dose-dependent effects of dietary TCDD in Juvenile Rainbow Trout.” </p><p>The second place poster Victor Drill Award was presented to Sonya Bolker who received $100 for her poster entitled Enrichment of broccoli and tomato with bioactive components: effects on bioactivity markers in vivo.” Both awards were presented by Molly Weiller.</p><p>VIII. Young Investigators Award</p><p>This award was presented to Erin Shanle for her research proposal on “The impact of BPA on Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Therapy”. Erin is a graduate student in Molecular and Environmental Toxicology at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. </p><p>XI. Recognition of Councilors</p><p>Peter thanked Don Korte, Molly Weiler and Christina Wilson who completed their terms of service on the Executive Committee.
