<p> Council on Admission, Graduation and Academic Standards</p><p>Minutes</p><p>November 3, 2005</p><p>Members present: Connelly, Gabbei, Illovsky, Lee, Mericle, Mietus, Miller, Westerhold, Kennealy Members absent: Gabica, Mann Ex-Officio present: Combites, Helmers Ex-Officio absent: Baily, Bracey Guests: None</p><p>The Council met from 2:00 to 3:19 p.m. in the University Union Board Room. </p><p>Mietus announced that an Administrative Intern is working with Barb Baily in the Provost’s Office and will be attending some of the CAGAS meetings. The Council discussed the acceptability of allowing this intern to sit in on appeals. The members of the Council agreed that it would be acceptable to permit this provided that the intern was in the company of Baily.</p><p>Mietus distributed some questions and concerns submitted by the Chair of the Grade Appeals Committee (Jeff Engel) in the Biology department regarding procedures for submitting appeals. Dave Connelly and Tara Westerhold agreed to review the suggestions submitted by Engle and make recommendations to the Council.</p><p>Mietus reported that after consultation with the Provost’s Office it was recommended that the University Catalog can be considered as a contract between the university and the student. Consequently, any regularly scheduled class which requires coursework outside the regularly scheduled semester time-frame would be inappropriate.
