<p> Moses, the call, the burning bush Exodus 3:1-15 Fall 2013 Cell Lesson</p><p>Moses was taking care of his father-in-law flock in the desert near Horeb (mountain of God). Hess sees a bush that is on fire but isn’t being burnt up or consumed by the fire. Moses’ first thought is to go check out the weird plant that is on fire but isn’t burning. God sees Moses approaching and begins to take. First his tells him to take off his sandals b/c he is standing on holy ground. Then God tells Moses that he is the God of the Israelite fore- fathers: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. Then God continues to tell Moses his plan which is to send Moses to confront Pharoah, the ruler in Egypt who has put all the Israelites to work as his slaves, and tell him to let them God. Moses basically tells God he isn’t anyone special and that what if they Israelites don’t believe him when he tells them that he, Moses, has been sent by the God of their great ancestors. Then God says to tell the people that Moses has been sent by “I AM WHO I AM.” The name in which the Lord would be remembered from generation to generation. I. Opening Questions: </p><p>1. What does it take to get you up in the morning? 2. On Monday mornings what is “business as usual” for you? 3.Where have you had your most unusual or significant experience with God? II. Dig Question: 1. How do you think Moses felt when God called his name from the burning bush? -Stunned, -Confused, -Scared, etc. 2. If you had been Moses how would you have reacted to this encounter? -thought you were having a taco/pizza dream, -I’m too old for this, -Why does God want me? 3. Why do you suppose Moses questioned God? -Moses was unsure of himself, -he didn’t want the job, -he didn’t want to go back and face Pharoah? 4. Why do you think God revealed himself to Moses in this way? -to get his attention, -to demonstrate power, -to give him an experience to remember when he had doubts? 5. In our story, it says “I AM that I AM”. Who is speaking? Who else in the Bible claims to be the “I AM”? -Jesus ( “I AM the door”, “I AM the good shepherd”, “I AM the light of the world”, “I AM the way, the truth, and the life”, “I AM the resurrection and the life”, “I AM the true vine”, “I AM the bread of life”, “Before Abraham was, I AM.”). III Apply Questions: 1. If God were to identify himself as “I Am ____” how would you fill in the blank? Meaning who do you need God to be? 2. What has been the burning bush in your life? -a near disaster, -frustrated plans, -special blessing, -a personal crisis, -a meaningful worship experience, -a personal experience with God? 3. God was calling Moses from tending sheep to leading a nation. To what might God be calling you? -a closer relationship with him, - to trust his leading 4. How would you describe your relationship with God right now? 5. How can this group support you in prayer this week?</p>
