If You Become Aware of a Potential Emergency

WRO 4/.06 PAULDING ARES® STANDARD OPERATION PROCEDURES (SOP) IF YOU BECOME AWARE OF A POTENTIAL EMERGENCY

1) INSURE YOUR OWN SAFETY and that of your family. If you are incapacitated (death, injury, or worrying about your family), you are of little or no good to others, including ARES. The FIRST thing to do is make sure you and your family are safe.

2) CHECK-IN TO THE PC ARES REPEATER (WB4QOJ 146.955 -600 77 Hz). There are PC ARES personnel who will be assigned to monitor specific info services & strategic frequencies, such as amateur radio simplex frequencies, repeater systems that are linked to NWS, repeaters that are located in critical areas (to the North and Northwest), and county/government frequencies. For obvious reasons (de-sensing), you may not be able to transmit and receive at the same time. Pertinent info from those monitoring stations will be disseminated via the ARES repeater on 146.955. (You may be called upon to be one of those monitoring stations).

3) STAY WHERE YOU ARE DO NOT PUT YOURSELF IN HARM’S WAY If you are in a safe location, stay there (see # 1 above), and wait for your assignment from the ARES Net Control (NCS) or your EC. If there is a call-up by the county, you will be notified via phone, internet, or (most likely) the ARES repeater (146.955) by one of the ARES leadership members (your EC or AEC).

4) BE PATIENT and follow rule #1 above. Make a calm, careful and considered assessment of the situation. Don’t rush to the incident location. Be a part of the solution, and not a part of the problem. You are of best use applying your skills as a communicator from a safe location. The county will most likely be able to take care of most all situations. We (ARES members) will be of most use on the periphery. If it’s necessary to go to the scene of a disaster, you will be notified.

5) MONITOR PC (Local) ARES FREQUENCIES: Primary Repeater Frequency: 146.955 MHz -600 77 Hz (WB4QOJ) Secondary Repeater Frequency: Primary Simplex: 147.580 MHz Secondary Simplex:

6) REPORT INFO REGARDING ANY INCIDENT TO PC ARES (146.955)
