Open-Ended Huck Finn Project

Open-Ended Huck Finn Project

Open-Ended Huck Finn project

Group Members: 1-4

Concept: This project is intended to allow you to use your individual talents to create a Huck Finn-themed product, while extending your research beyond the classroom. You may work with other students, but you may work on your own if that is where you are most comfortable. You will not receive very specific guidelines for this project because I want to see where you are able to take it. You will need to choose a specific element of the novel as your focus.

Possible Projects: A video production (w/ script), a traditional research paper, a PowerPoint presentation, or an artistic creation. This is only a limited number of possible projects. You may take this a wide-variety of directions.

Requirements:  You must have a theme. Choose one element of the novel to focus upon. Think about what speaks to you about this book (slavery, friendship, the subjective nature of morality, the shortcomings of civilization, Twain’s time and personal history, etc.)  There must be some research associated with your creation. A works cited page in MLA format must accompany whatever you submit. This may require a certain amount of creativity with some projects.  You will have five to ten minutes to present your project to the class. Every project must be presented, with the exception of a research paper.  You must submit a rubric with which I can grade your project. This serves multiple purposes. It requires you to think about what exactly you are trying to accomplish and it gives me some guidelines to grade your project (bare in mind that I have to grade a WIDE variety of projects. I could not do so fairly without rubrics created by students.) This is to be submitted at the time of your presentation.

Proposal: On Monday, 3/11, you will need to submit a written proposal to me for your project. This will need to give me an outline of your planned work. I will choose to approve, revise, or reject your project depending on whether you have met all requirements and how much work the project will require of you (example: I would REVISE a project in which you plan to write a poem about the book. I would suggest writing a BOOK of poetry about the book). As of now, there is no definitive date for the final project. You can plan on having approximately two weeks from today to create. On Friday we will sign up for presentation times.
