<p>Basic Information and Resources for Advising Internationals</p><p>1. Students interested in taking tuition-based credit courses in Academic ESL (EFL prefix) courses need to take Document 47 (the Academic ESL Placement Test available in the Testing Center on Central Campus). Admissions issues permission slips for the test. (Students who want a re-test within a 12 month period go directly to the Testing Center, but must pay for each section they wish to retest. Only one retest is permitted within the 12 months.)</p><p>2. For Listening and Reading, results appear immediately in the computer. Most composition scores also appear immediately, but some must be manually scored. The grammar section is manually scored. For manually scored tests, results appear approximately two days after the test. During summer (and at certain other times) these scores may be delayed. Students can always register for Composition I (EFL 091) and Grammar I (EFL 081) without a test score.</p><p>3. Cut scores are available at http://karen.stanley.people.cpcc.edu/AdvisorTips.htm</p><p>We do not recommend that a student take courses in all four skill areas simultaneously unless the student has no work or family obligations. </p><p>However, when appropriate, permission for a 20-credit-hour load (all courses to be in Academic ESL) can be given by in person registration personnel at the registration window. For a student who registers on line, permission will need to be entered into the computer by Sylvia Nikopoulos, Bjarne Nielsen, Lara Beninca, Diane Dorante, or Karen Stanley. Under normal circumstances, at least one of these people should be available by phone (or via messaging or email) to enter the permission.</p><p>4.
