<p>Jessica Mumm</p><p>Frogs! Unit Lesson Plan </p><p>Grade Level: 2nd</p><p>Topic: Frogs</p><p>General Objectives</p><p>1. To help children broaden their concepts of living things as they learn more about the metamorphosis and development of frogs. 2. To help children develop an understanding of the basic needs of animals through the study and care of tadpoles as they develop into adult frogs.</p><p>Literacy Materials </p><p>1. Growing Frogs: Read and Wonder by Vivian French 2. From Tadpole to Frog by Wendy Pfeffer 3. Jump, Frog, Jump by Robert Kalan 4. If you Hopped Like A Frog by David Schwartz</p><p>Art</p><p>1. Have the children draw pictures of the changes they see throughout the weeks in a record book. 2. Make sure they note the changes the same time every day. Sketching, drawing and note taking should be encouraged. 3. Using clay or craft materials, have the children create a frog or tadpole.</p><p>Language Arts</p><p>1. Provide a wide range of books in the classroom as references to the children. 2. Read books dealing with the development of frogs and their characteristics as they progress through development. 3. Create poetry or short stories about frogs 4. Focus on the letter “f” for frog during that unit</p><p>Mathematics</p><p>1. Instruct the children how to make a chart of their observations. 2. Observations to record could possibly include measuring the frog/tadpole length. 3. Have the children count how many tadpoles are in the tank day 1 and keep count of how many frogs develop fully by the last week. </p><p>Science</p><p>1. Allow children to see hands on the development of frogs by providing a tadpole tank in the classroom. 2. View pictures of different kinds of frogs in CD-ROM encyclopedias and other science software. 3. Have the children observe and imitate through movement. 4. Listen to tape recordings of frog sounds. Social Studies</p><p>1. Grow tadpoles in an observational learning center 2. View pictures of different kinds of frogs according to geographic location 3.
