GUIDELINES for PROPOSED REQUIREMENT(S) Courses meeting the Cultural Diversity Requirement are intended to help students develop a comprehensive understanding of human diversity by a focus on cultures, roles and experiences of peoples who have historically been underrepresented in the curriculum, and/or on analysis of the construction of social identity and social difference. Indicate which requirement(s) you propose this course to fulfill:</p><p> Global Understanding-- These courses contain a principal focus on people(s) whose practices and beliefs have been shaped in significant ways by an historical tradition separate from that of Western Europe. [Complete Section 3]</p><p> Conceptualizing Diversity—These courses contain a principal focus either on (a) diversity in a conceptual or comparative context, or (b) diversity within the U.S. context. [Complete Section 4] </p><p>3. GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING </p><p>A. Identify the people(s) serving as the principal focus of the course.</p><p>B. State the learning goals for students that address a tradition separate from that of Western Europe.</p><p>C. Describe an exemplary assignment, activity, or assessment that addresses the learning goals listed above. 4. CONCEPTUALIZING DIVERSITY </p><p>A. Identify the concepts or dimensions of diversity that serve as principal categories of analysis or criticism (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, religion, etc.); OR identify the aspect of diversity within the U.S. or larger indigenous American context that is the focus for course content (e.g., African- American religious traditions, Chinese-American literature, or Native American cultures).</p><p>B. State the learning goals for students that address the approach to conceptualizing diversity (OR, the aspect of U.S. diversity) indicated above.</p><p>C. Describe an exemplary assignment, activity, or assessment that addresses the learning goals listed above. </p><p>Email this form with the Proposal Form for New Courses (unless this is an existing course) to your Department Chair or Program Coordinator.
