<p>SECTION MEETING REPORT </p><p>To be returned within FIVE DAYS after the meeting, if possible.</p><p>Please mail, fax or e-mail this report directly to Dianne Purrier, Managing Editor ([email protected], with a copy to Sally-Ann D’Amato ([email protected]) Photos are welcomed. </p><p>SECTION:____HOLLYWOOD MEETING DATE(S): September 25, 2008 ATTENDANCE: 70 LOCATION: Linwood Dunn Theater – Los Angeles, CA</p><p>SPEAKERS: (include company affiliation) TOPICS: See text</p><p>At last September’s Hollywood section SMPTE meeting, in front of a good interactive group, we discussed part one of David Fincher’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” acquisition workflow and some of the differences learned from Zodiac and updated on Benjamin Button. </p><p>For the September 25th meeting we have been able to again bring together a group of the Buttons workflow team to discuss part two of the project The movie is due for release on December 25th. Section chair Paul Chapman greeted the audience of about 70 members and guests. This was followed by Section Governor Patricia Keighley giving a progress report on the upcoming National meeting to be held later in October in Hollywood. Section Manager Eric Gsell make a request for volunteers.</p><p>The session, once again, was moderated by Section Manager Mark Chiolis, and included Post- production supervisor Peter Mavromates, and co-ordinator of digital photography workflow Steve Roach. Also joining the panel was cinematographer Claudio Miranda, VFX Specialist Craig Barron, imaging specialist Patrick Cooper, and colorist Jan Yarborough.</p><p>The catered pre-show reception was sponsored by Warner Bros. Motion Picture Imaging group.</p><p>The presentation opened with a clip from the 1938 Technicolor feature The Goldwyn Follies, using a new print made from the 70 year old 3-strip camera negatives. This gave a graphic demonstration of the best in motion picture imaging of that time, compared with today’s technology.</p><p>The panel discussed their relationship with the working methods of director David Fincher, and his affinity for using digital capture for his recent features. Each panelist reviewed his individual contribution to the project. There was digital projection of the teaser trailer, as well as several examples of work in progress.</p><p>After a question and answer session, the meeting finished about 9:45pm.</p><p>Richard P.
