<p> Offices of the Nuffield Professor of Medicine</p><p>Interview Format Guidelines</p><p>Ensure that that location for the interview is suitable, that is there is sufficient space, the room is airy and that you have made water available to the candidate. </p><p>You should then welcome the candidate:  Introduce the panel members  Give a brief overview of the department and the role  Outline interview format</p><p>Helpful hints:  Ask open-ended questions against the selection criteria from the job description to gain further insight into relevant examples supplied on the application form/CV  You should ask the same questions to each candidate, although it is expected that answers to some questions will lead to slightly varied follow-on questions  Probe for specific examples from the candidates own experience  Tactfully query with the candidate on any gaps in employment history  Supply additional information related to job as requested by the candidate</p><p>At the end of the interview you should:</p><p> Inform the candidate of next steps (e.g. when the decision be made, how they will be informed, will there be a further interview)</p><p> Advise candidates that any offer made will be subject to the receipt of satisfactory references and medical clearance</p><p>Interview notes</p><p>Notes taken at interview do not have to be detailed but should be sufficient to ensure transparency surrounding the reasons for appointment or non-appointment, and to ensure it is relatively easy to provide feedback when requested. Interview notes will be kept for a specific period of time, and are potentially disclosable to candidates through a Freedom of Information request. Please ensure you do not include anything that could be considered as inappropriate in your interview notes e.g. personal descriptions or judgements that could be seen as biased.</p><p>Your HR Officer is able to give for more advice on the recruitment and selection process.</p>
