<p>STATE OF CALIFORNIA ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE BILL LOCKYER, Attorney General COMMISSION ON PEACE OFFICER STANDARDS AND TRAINING 1601 ALHAMBRA BOULEVARD SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA 95816-7083 www.post.ca.gov March 30, 2004</p><p>BULLETIN: 04-02</p><p>SUBJECT: SHERMAN BLOCK SUPERVISORY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE - ADVANCE NOTICE OF APPLICATION PERIOD FOR 2004</p><p>Beginning on June 1, 2004, the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) will accept applications for the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SBSLI). No applications will be accepted before June 1, 2004. </p><p>POST will accept no more than six applications per agency, and no more than a total of 500 qualified applicants. If needed, an alternate selection plan will be used to limit the applications to 500, to ensure an equitable statewide representation in all SBSLI classes. Class assignments cannot be reserved and submission of an application does not guarantee placement in a scheduled class. </p><p>There will be two acceptable methods for submitting applications:</p><p>1. Electronic submission via EDI - Agencies may use the POST Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system to submit SBSLI applications via a secured Internet site. The EDI system also allows agencies to pre-check the eligibility of their applicants. </p><p>Agencies needing to sign-up for the EDI system will find instructions and the access application at http://www.post.ca.gov/edi/accessapplication.pdf. POST recommends that this step be completed quickly to ensure that agency users can logon to the system in a timely manner, and with sufficient time to pre-check candidate eligibility.</p><p>2. Mail - Agencies without Internet access may submit a completed Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute Application, POST 2-122 (4/25/2000). The form may be obtained from POST. SBSLI paper applications may be sent via United States mail; applications will not be accepted via facsimile.</p><p>Each applicant must meet the following criteria to be considered for SBSLI enrollment:</p><p> Is currently serving as a full-time, first-level supervisory peace officer (usually the position of Sergeant)  Has completed two years of full-time experience supervising peace officer employees  Has completed the POST Supervisory Course OR possesses a POST Supervisory Certificate  Agrees to remain employed in law enforcement for five years after SBSLI graduation. </p><p>Additional SBSLI information is located at http://www.post.ca.gov/training/sbsli/default.asp.
