The course also provides a foundation for advanced study leading to postsecondary education and careers in related fields. The course addresses early childhood care and education and development issues that include guiding the physical, cognitive, creative, social, emotional, and moral development of children. This course of study includes planning and guiding developmentally appropriate practices for working with young children including career paths, principles and theories of child development, the creation of a developmentally appropriate learning environment, collaborative relationships and guidance, lesson planning, and appropriate responses to cultural diversity and students with special needs. Mastery of standards through project based learning, technical skills practice, and leadership development activities of the career and technical student organizations will provide students with a competitive edge for either entry into the education global marketplace and/or the post-secondary institution of their choice to continue their education and training. They will also experience some realistic aspects of the responsibility of having a baby. Course Outline: </p><p>WEEK GPS</p><p>Week 1: Students will analyze career paths within the early childhood education field.</p><p>Students will identify major contributors to the field of early childhood care and Week 2: education and analyze their implications for educational and childcare practices.</p><p>Week 3: Students will identify and practice professional work ethics.</p><p>Week 4: Students will identify and practice professional work ethics.</p><p>Students will demonstrate techniques for positive collaborative relationships with Week 5: children.</p><p>Week 6: Students will respond appropriately to cultural diversity in the learning environment.</p><p>Students will discuss ways to adapt the curriculum and classroom for children with Week 7: special needs.</p><p>Students will discuss ways to adapt the curriculum and classroom for children with Week 8: special needs.</p><p>Week 9: Students will plan and utilize routines and transitional techniques with children.</p><p>Students will demonstrate integration of curriculum and instruction to meet children’s Week 10: developmental needs and interests.</p><p>Students will demonstrate integration of curriculum and instruction to meet children’s Week 11: developmental needs and interests.</p><p>Students will determine components of a well organized developmentally appropriate Week 12: learning environment.</p><p>Students will determine components of a well organized developmentally appropriate Week 13: learning environment.</p><p>Week 14: Students will analyze licensing and accreditations standards.</p><p>Week 15: The student will describe the role of the government in education.</p><p>Week 16: Students will demonstrate professional development planning. </p><p>Week 17: Create a Professional Portfolio</p><p>Week 18: Review For Final Exams Grading Scale* Homework 5% Class Work /Daily Work 20% Reading/Writing 10% Labs/Portfolio/ Projects 30% Participation/ Performance 15% Tests/Quizzes 10% Final Exam 10%</p><p>• Daily Work/Bell Work will be posted everyday. It is the responsibility of the student to complete and submit the assignments during the allotted time. Reading silently as well as aloud is mandatory. </p><p>• Test/Quizzes will be given to students as a means of evaluation for information retention. </p><p>•Portfolio/Projects procedures will be given to students as projects and labs are assigned. Students will be given several projects during the semester. Projects assignment sheets will be given to the student prior to the due date. Students will also create a professional portfolio.</p><p>• Class Participation will be used as a means of evaluating student daily work ethic: Whether or not the student worked on task, left work area clean, worked cooperatively, worked with a positive attitude, and adhered to the class as well as school rules. </p><p>• Final Exam: Students will be given on (1) departmental comprehensive exam each semester. </p><p>Required Materials: Supplies Due Date: August 15, 2011 </p><p> 1 (1 inch 3 ring)  1 composition tablet  Notebook Paper  Pencils, and Black or Dark Blue Ink Pens </p><p>Classroom Expectations: </p><p>1. All assignments should be neatly written in blue or black ink only on notebook paper or typed on lineless paper. 2. Students need to use class time productively and cooperate with group members. 3. You should bring to class blue or black pens, a pencil, and notebook paper every day. Late Assignments: Will be accepted for excused absences within the guidelines set forth by Cobb County Make-up Policy: </p><p>1. You are responsible for making sure all your work is turned in on time. It is your responsibility to ask me for any assignments missed due to absences. If you know that your are going to be absent for any reason, please let me know in advance, so that we can make arrangements that will keep you on the same track with your class.</p><p>2. Announced assignments, such as homework, quizzes and major assessments are due the day the student returns. For each day’s excused absence, students will have one day to make up missed work. If a student is absent under extenuating circumstances, special arrangements can be made to make up work. </p><p>3. IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO REQUEST MISSED ASSIGNMENTS. Academic Honesty Receiving or giving information for an assignment is cheating and when caught in the act students will not receive credit nor receive the opportunity for a chance of make-up. </p><p>“ Mrs. Tanner’s Classroom Rules” </p><p>1. All school rules will strictly be enforced, in this classroom. </p><p>2. Be in class and seated when the tardy bell sounds. </p><p>3. Bring all necessary materials to class every day. </p><p>4. Respect others and their property as well as yourself. </p><p>5. Absolutely no sleeping. </p><p>6. Do not disturb the classroom atmosphere. </p><p>7. Do not use profanity or dress inappropriately. </p><p>8. Keep the area around you clean, including desks, floors, and tables. </p><p>9. Stay in seat until dismissal bell rings</p><p>Special Notes: Students will be required to purchase items for class projects and cooking projects throughout the semester. Students will be given a reasonable amount of time to purchase these items for class.
