<p>Chabot College Fall 2007</p><p>Course Outline for Psychology-Counseling 25 TRANSITION TO COLLEGE</p><p>Catalog Description:</p><p>25 – Transition to College 1/2 unit</p><p>A survey of practical strategies for academic success focusing on the new student. Examines goal setting, college policies, graduation requirements, campus resources, student rights and responsibilities, and student educational planning. Designed for first time college students in order to enhance their transition into college and maximize their academic/vocational potential. 9 total hours.</p><p>Prerequisite Skills:</p><p>None</p><p>Expected Outcomes for Students:</p><p>Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:</p><p>1. State education goals in general terms; 2. Utilize appropriate campus resources; 3. Demonstrate knowledge of transfer and AA/AS graduation requirements; 4. Follow correct registration procedures; 5. Utilize handout material to locate information on student rights and responsibilities; 6. Organize course content and know what information to study; 7. Complete the components of the matriculation process, assessment; orientation and counseling follow-up.</p><p>Course Content:</p><p>1. Educational Planning - Majors 2. College success and future outcomes 3. The Chabot College Catalog - policies, procedures, etc., 4. Time Management - term, weekly, and daily planning 5. Registration procedures 6. Expectations of student in extra curricular activities, i.e., ASCC 7. Campus resources 8. Student rights and responsibilities 9. Group interaction 4. Practice materials 5. Class activities</p><p>Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:</p><p>1. Typical Assignments a. Each student will be assigned to a small group for this exercise. You are to confer with your group members and identify one campus resource to research. The group will present a list of 6 reasons the resource is important for success at Chabot College. b. Each student will review the class schedule provided and identify 3 courses in which you plan to enroll next term. Be sure to be able to tell me why you are planning the specific courses you list. Record your selections on the Partial Student Education Plan (Partial SEP).</p><p>2. Methods of Evaluating Student Progress a. Class discussion b. Partial SEP c. Student self-evaluation d.
