<p>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Angie Stump Denton, [email protected] or 785-363-7263 Jan. xx, 2015</p><p>Delaney Herefords, Coyote Ridge Ranch and Colyer Herefords Take Top Honors in Hereford Yard Show </p><p>KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Delaney Herefords, Lake Benton, Minn., reigned victorious in the Hereford carload show on Friday, Jan. 16, during the 2015 National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver. Coyote Ridge Ranch, LaSalle, Colo., topped the pen of three bull show and Colyer Herefords, Bruneau, Idaho, won the pen of three female show in the Denver Yards. Bill Goehring, Libertyville, Iowa; Ronny Morgan, Burwell, Neb.; and Paul Bennett, Red House, Va., teamed up to evaluate the Yard shows which included 10 carloads, 39 bull pens and 21 heifer pens. A total of 278 Herefords competed in the Yards. Compared to 2014 this an increase of 94 head. The Delaney family’s champion carload of junior bull calves tipped the scales at an average weight of 1,294 lb., and a weight per day of age (WDA) of 3.76 lb. The group was sired by KJ HVH 33N Redeem 485T ET, H DiMaggio 2094 ET, JDH Victor 719T 33Z ET and Perks 144U Right Track 2040. On show day the group posted average expected progeny differences (EPDs) of birth weight (BW) 3.3; weaning weight (WW) 60; yearling weight (YW) 92; milk (MM) 28; and milk and growth (M&G) 58. The group had an average scrotal measurement of 34.9 cm. Reserve grand champion carload honors went to Hoffman Herefords, Thedford, Neb. The group was sired by NJW 73S W18 Hometown 10Y ET, Churchill Sensation 028X, H BK CCC SR Game Changer ET, Golden Oak Outcross 18U, MSU TCF Revolution 4R and Purple MB Womanizer 14U ET. The average weight of the load was 1,210 lb. and they calculated a WDA of 3.40. The average EPDs of the group were BW 3.5; WW 58; YW 95; MM 26; and M&G 55. They had an average scrotal measurement of 36.0 cm. Standing in the 2015 pen show spotlight was Coyote Ridge Ranch, LaSalle, Colo., with its champion bull pen that first won the spring bull calf division. The calves were sired by CRR 719 Catapult 109. They averaged 1,140 lb., and had a calculated WDA of 3.57 lb. with an average scrotal measurement of 34.7 cm. The group’s EPDs were BW 1.9; WW 66; YW 101; MM 28; and M&G 61. Fawcetts Elm Creek Ranch, Ree Heights, S.D., was reserve champion in the spring bull calf division before being selected reserve grand champion pen with a group sired by UPS Sensation 2296 ET. The average EPDs on the bulls were BW 3.3; WW 58; YW 97; MM 26; and M&G 55. The pen weighed an average of 1,097 lb. and calculated a 3.62 WDA with a 36.7 cm average scrotal measurement. The grand champion pen of females and champion in the junior calf division was exhibited by Colyer Herefords, Bruneau, Idaho, and sired by C Miles McKee 2103 ET. The group posted average EPDs of BW 2.9; WW 53; YW 80; MM 29; and M&G 56. Baumgarten Cattle Co., Belfield, N.D., showed the reserve grand champion pen of three females and reserve champion junior heifer calf division. These heifers were sired by LSW WCC About Time XD6.
