<p> Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Labor Standards OSHA Consultation Program www.mass.gov/dols/consult</p><p>Fire Prevention Plan (29CFR 1910.39)</p><p>The fire prevention plan must be in writing unless there are 10 or fewer employees, in which case, the plan may be orally communicated to employees. The fire prevention plan must be kept in the workplace and available to employees to review. The fire prevention plan must contain the following elements:</p><p>1. A list of major fire workplace hazards, proper handling and storage procedures for hazardous materials, potential ignition sources and their control and the type of fire protection equipment necessary to control each major hazards.</p><p>2. Procedures to control accumulations of flammable and combustible waster materials.</p><p>3. Procedures for regular maintenance of safeguards installed on heat- producing equipment to prevent the accidental ignition of combustible materials.</p><p>4. Names or job titles of personnel responsible for maintaining equipment To prevent or control sources of ignition or fires.</p><p>5. Names or job titles of personnel responsible for control f fuel source hazards.</p><p>Training </p><p>Employees must be told of fire hazards of materials and processes to which they are exposed. This must be done initially and whenever there are new hazards or changes in procedures. Employers must review with each employee those parts of the fire prevention plan necessary for self-protection. </p>
