The Word Alert is intended to be a fast, effective way to assess students’ understanding of key terms and concepts for this lesson. It can be used both as a “Before Reading” and as an “After Reading” evaluation to document change in understanding. The “Picture” section can alternatively be labeled “Notes,” depending on grade level.
