<p> ADD-on – COURSE Syllabus for one year Certificate Course (first year) in Seed Technology. (2014-15, 2015-16 & 2016-17)</p><p>Theory Paper Lectures to be delivered :50 (each of 45 minutes duration) pds./week:3 Time Allowed: 3 hours. Maximum Marks: 60 Pass Marks 35% of the subject , theory and practical1 separately.</p><p>Sessional work (Internal Assessment) : Attendance : 03 Marks Assignment : 06 Marks House Test : 06 Marks Total Marks : 15 Marks</p><p>INSTRUCTIONS TO THE PAPER SETTER The question paper will consist of three sections A, B and C. Section A and B will have four questions from the respective section of syllabus and will carry 9 marks each. Section C will consist of 12 short-answer type questions which will cover the entire syllabus uniformly and will carry 24 marks in all. INSTRUCTIONS FOR CANDIDATES</p><p>Candidates are required to attempt two questions from each section A and B and the entire section C, which is compulsory. </p><p>SECTION-A Seed Morphology: 1. Seed: types (Dicot and Monocot; Endospermic and Non – Endospermic), external and internal structure, texture and importance. 2. Seed processing and harvesting: cleaning grading, handling, weighing, bagging and storage. Seed Development: 3. Floral induction, flower structure and gametophyte development (Brief Account). 4. Pollination, fertilization, incompatibility and male sterility. </p><p>SECTION-B Seed Physiology and Pathology: 5. Seed viability, dormancy, germination and factors affecting germination. </p><p>1 6. Seed pathology: Basic knowledge about seed borne diseases with particular reference to common diseases of the area (Rice and Wheat), symptoms and management strategies. </p><p>Seed certification: 7. Seed quality, physical as well as genetic purity of seed and seed legislation. 8. Seed vigor, testing, seed certification and quarantine measures. </p><p>RECOMMENDED READINGS 1. R.L. Agrawal, 1982. To study the morphology and structure of seed (dicot and monocot). 2. To demonstrate the germination of seed (hypogeal and epigeal). 3. To study the floral biology of self- and cross-polinated crops. 4. Identification of improved varieties on the basis of seed morphology. 5. Seed testing: Purity test, Germination and viability test. 6. To study the effect of chemical/mechanical treatment of light to break the dormancy of seed. 7. To study the symptoms of common seed-borne diseases. 8. Project report – Collection of seeds of different crops/any other. </p><p>Distribution of Marks:</p><p>Practical Performance : 18 Marks Viva-Voce: 4 Marks Practical Records : 3 Marks</p><p>2</p>
