California Public Utilities Commission 505 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco

______FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MEDIA ADVISORY Media Contact: Terrie Prosper, 415.703.1366, [email protected] Docket #: I.10-02-020

CPUC TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED CLOSURE OF RAIL CROSSING IN GLENDALE

SAN FRANCISCO, August 16, 2010 -- The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) today said it will hold its third Public Participation Hearing on the proposed closure of the West Doran Street highway-rail at-grade crossing on the border of Glendale and Los Angeles.

WHEN: Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, 6 p.m.

WHERE: City of Glendale, Municipal Services Building, Room 105 633 E. Broadway, Glendale, Calif. WHY: To provide local businesses and residents an opportunity to comment on the proposed closure of the existing highway-rail at-grade crossing at West Doran St., south of the 134 freeway between San Fernando Rd. and West San Fernando Rd., on the border of Glendale and Los Angeles.

The CPUC’s Consumer Protection and Safety Division is seeking CPUC approval for closure of the crossing because they say it is redundant and unsafe, primarily because it is immediately adjacent to a propane and industrial gas truck loading and storage facility. This hazard is compounded by the high frequency and speed of passenger and freight trains, the constricted intersection and crossing, the nature of the motor vehicle traffic, the proximity of a major state route, and other factors. The City of Glendale and the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (Metrolink) support closure of the crossing.

Comments from the public can help the CPUC reach an informed decision and members of the public are encouraged to attend the hearing. The CPUC has scheduled this third public hearing to ensure that there is adequate opportunity for all those interested to be heard.

If you plan to attend and need specialized accommodations, please contact the Public Advisor’s

1 Office at least three business days in advance of the meeting at CPUC Public Advisor, 505 Van Ness Ave., Room 2103, San Francisco, CA 94102 or call 1-866-849-8390 or 1-415-703-2074; or email [email protected].

For those who are unable to attend the hearing, written comments may be submitted to the CPUC Public Advisor’s Office, 320 West 4th Street, Suite 500, Los Angeles, CA 90013. Or, comments may also be sent via email to [email protected] . Please refer to proceeding number I.10-02- 020.

The CPUC will take all comments received, both at the hearing and in writing, into account in reaching its decision.

Certain documents pertaining to this proceeding are available at: http://docs.cpuc.ca.gov/published/proceedings/I1002020.htm.

For more information on the CPUC, please visit www.cpuc.ca.gov.

###

2
