While ghouls and goblins roam the streets, fearless Trick or Voters will scare ballots from their hiding places in what will be the nation's largest transpartisan, transylvanian Get-Out-The-Vote canvass – Trick or Vote. And we are calling all lovers of democracy, costumes, and civic participation to join us. The only way this can work is if we unify our volunteer efforts.

Will you join us?

Trick or Vote: The best way on the best day. What is the one day each year we culturally expect a knock on the door? Halloween! When does Halloween occur? Yes, October 31. But also just days before the election. You may be too old to trick-or-treat, but you're never too old to trick-or-vote. Studies have shown that the easiest way to get people – especially young people – to vote is simply to ask them. Statistically, this peer-to-peer contact can increase participation by as much as 8–12%.

In 2004, Trick or Vote was executed nationally in 10 cities, and drew over 800 volunteers in Oregon to knock on over 25 ,000 doors – the largest mass canvass in state history. Of these 800 volunteers who signed in, 227 of them indicated with a checkbox that Trick or Vote was their first ever volunteer political experience.

With your help, 2008 will be the biggest haunt yet. After the massive canvass in targeted, youth-dense precincts, we’ll gather again for the Ghouls and Goblins Gala, a Halloween bash of epic proportions, and boogie down through the night.

This year, Trick-or-Vote is a nationwide event, active in 28 cities in 25 states. This is possible with the help of many youth advocacy partners like Rock the Vote, United States Student Association, League of Young Voters, Generation Vote, 18 in 08, MySpace Impact, Forward Montana, New Era Colorado, New Mexico Youth Organized, and many more.

On Friday, October 31st, the Bus Project is hosting 2 major Trick or Vote events in Oregon -- Portland and Eugene. In the spirit of civic engagement, we need your passion and support to help us get 1,000 volunteers to the original, Portland-based Trick or Vote. We are getting in touch with you so that we can consolidate our civic ambitions into one massive effort (and have a lot of fun together). We'd be overjoyed if you and your volunteers would join us.

Spookily, The Trick or Vote Team

333 SE 2nd Ave, Portland, Oregon, 97214 p. (503) 233-3018 f.
