Chemistry is the study of the composition of substances and the changes that substances undergo. Chemistry contributes to other natural sciences including Biology, Geology and Physics. All students will be held accountable for his or her actions. The following is a list of guidelines, consequences, and rewards that will be adhered to.</p><p>Classroom Guidelines: </p><p>1. Always be respectful. (To me, To your classmates, To school property)</p><p>2. Always follow directions.</p><p>3. Obey all DHS policies and procedures.</p><p>Consequences:</p><p>1. 1st Offense = Warning</p><p>2. 2nd Offense = Conference with Student (30 seconds after class)</p><p>3. 3rd Offense = Lunch detention</p><p>4. 4th Offense = Phone call home</p><p>5. 5th Offense = Discipline Referral</p><p>Incentives:</p><p>1. Sense of Personal Pride</p><p>2. Praise from teacher! Pleasure of knowing you are doing something great! 3. Good news letters or phone calls home</p><p>4. Falcon Pride Referral at instructors discretion </p><p>Classroom Procedures:</p><p>Tardies: Be in the classroom heading toward your seat when the bell rings. Running down the hall as the bell is ringing will be considered tardy. If you are tardy, you will have to get a pass from an administrator or campus supervisor. </p><p>Assignments:</p><p> Students are expected to begin bellwork immediately upon entering the classroom. Bellwork will be taken up every week and will be counted as a quiz grade.</p><p> Classwork will be put in the labeled box on my desk.</p><p> Late assignments will be accepted with severe penalty to the grade.</p><p> Cheating on any assignment will not be tolerated and will result in a zero.</p><p>Materials: Bring your Macbook and a pen/pencil and binder every day. You may not leave your notebook in class</p><p>Remain Seated once class begins and Raise Your Hand to be called on when you need to speak</p><p> Pencils will be sharpened before the lesson begins. If you have to sharpen your pencil during instruction time, raise your pencil and I will give you a hand sharpener or pencil to use.</p><p> Trash accumulated during class can be put on the corner of your table. If I don’t pick it up for you, you may put it in the trash can on your way out of class. </p><p>Restroom: After the bell rings to begin class, no student will be allowed to go to the restroom until bellwork is completed, or during lecture and note-taking sessions.</p><p>Be Neat, Be Clean, Be Safe: Clean up after yourself in the classroom and in lab. Keep table-tops and walkways uncluttered. Follow all laboratory safety procedures. (No food, drinks are allowed only in bottles with lids)</p><p>End of Class:</p><p> The last two minutes of class will be used to give any make – up work, conference with students, or answer any questions not related to the day’s lesson.</p><p> No students will be allowed to leave when the bell rings until all students are in their seats. No standing at the door.</p><p>Evaluation</p><p>The DHS Science Department grades assignments using a straight points scale.
